How do y'all cope on the hard days ? What makes you happy to be where you are ?

Impermanence. Knowing that nothing good or bad ever stays the same. So if today is bad, it will get better! Also, momentary distraction always helps. I find something to take me out of a mind funk, like cooking, reading, walking, or Netflix.

What have you been reading lately?

Right now I’m reading Dry by Augusten Burroughs. Somehow I managed never to pick that one up before. I’ve read a lot of drinking memoirs. His is soooo good. Also got Alcohol Explained on Kindle today. It has good reviews and I’m sort of science-y, so.

Prayer. Reaching out to a friend. Journaling my thoughts and feelings. Know that you are not alone and are more alike with others than you may feel in the moment. I am open to being supportive to each and everyone :green_heart::pray:t5:

Journaling helps me a lot if im feeling down or having a bad day i pretend the papers is someone im talking to and let it all out i end up writing pages at a time sometimes but it feels really good afterwords, Also going on walks or just playing with my dog always seems to lift me up

Doing something nice for a random person makes me feel pretty good.

I find a small way to improve the moment. Make my favorite tea, listen to my favorite music, go for a walk. And I remind myself that this too shall pass

Don’t think...don’t drink....go to a meeting...share....

Extra sleep and going outside

I call people in my sober network. You should create one if you don’t have one. A sober network is a group of people who are sober friends. We help each other out. I’ll send you a friend request. You can message me whenever you need to.

I also get extra sleep and go to meetings :heart:

I had a bad day today. I stopped at a Kwik trip for a quick dinner before I worked out. The person behind the counter greeted me with “hi Tom” I asked how she knew my name? She said “you’ve been coming in here for years and are one of the nice regulars” I feel both really appreciated and guilty for not knowing Sam even though it’s on her name tag.

I will take a bad day like that everyday!

Why do you consider that a bad day?

Sorry it wasn’t that interaction, it was that interaction that made my day great.

This is what I do daily; I wake up and see that my arms and legs are attached where they belong and I was neither thinking of a drink or drug or NOT thinking of a drink or drug.
Then prior to eating breakfast and taking my various nutrients I sit down and recite the following prayer
For food in a world where many go in hunger
For faith in a world where many go in fear
For friends in a world where many walk alone
I give you thanks Lord

That enables me to begin the day not only with gratitude but in proper perspective

On my hard days I take extra long walks with my dogs. Seeing them being happy on a walk makes me happy.
