It’s not boredom it’s freedom freedom to do anything but pass out.

My first year of sobriety I filled my extra time with working out, weekly hikes and new adventures. I may have burned myself out with all of that but I’m also enjoying quiet nights in and alone time. It’s been an awkward adjustment buts it’s definitely better than being wasted every night and waking up feeling terrible.

That’s one of my hardest!!!! I’m learning to get back to the girl before all of this. The writer, the reader, the singer, the dancer…….

So for me, the unsatisfactory feeling when I am still is my mind trying to tell me I’m not ok. My addiction tries to trick me into thinking I’m not ok even when I am totally ok. It hits at quiet moments when I am still. When it happens to me I just say “I am okay” to myself over and over while I pay attention to my breathing. Another thing I’ve done is I set up some of my AA folks as safety net. I’ve told them up front that I might send them a message “am I ok?” and I’ve asked them to please respond “u r ok”. I told them yo I’m not in trouble. I just need to hear from you. It really works.

honestly, ive been struggling with this a lot too. if ur bored this means u have some time to do new things. rlly put urself out of ur comfort zone n try things u never would, u will end up distracted n hopefully find a new hobby or something to attach ur mind to when u get bored. distractions r key

I constantly listen to sobriety podcasts and quit lit while I’m trying to figure out what to do, which has been super helpful. ~And~ they often give good tips for what to do when you’re struggling with boredom, hunger, irritation, etc.

You do realize this is how much time we wasted being wasted on our doc. Sickening isn't it!!!!
I read posts, books on everything including sobriety, I go for walks with my ipod. I'm teaching myself chess and still haven't won yet. I even have a cleaner house lol. I just spent a few minutes responding here. It makes a difference. Best of luck reach out anytime

Hobbies, lots of hobbies. And meetings.

Gym, cooking/food prep, hiking, reading, gaming, AA meetings, paint by numbers kits off of Amazon, getting involved with service work in your community, part of recovery is replacing the old people, places, and things for new ones… just a thought. I feel you though, some days are harder than others. Fortunately the clock is always ticking and at some point it’s bed time.

Home improvement projects and helping my kid study has been taking up lots of my time but I need to figure out how to fun some fun without drinking. Keeping busy is one thing but learning how to play and be that inner kid without the drinking is a challenge. Reading all these suggestions and knowing others struggling helps :upside_down_face:

I am trying to figure out what i like to do. I can only work and working out .
