How to deal with physical withdrawal symptoms

Hi everyone,

I’m two days sober, again……I’m experiencing intensive sweating, leg and foot spasms and hot/cold shakes at night. It hasn’t happened before when I tried to quit. I’m not concerned enough to see a doctor but maybe someone can advise some home remedies to ease detoxing on your body.

I feel this so hard. Lots of water and rest. It gets better but it sucks while you’re getting through it. Hang in there. ❤️‍🩹

If you are able, I say ABSOLUTELY get professional medical support. Alcohol withdrawal kills people. Really really. But if you really cannot, might want to look into what’s typically given during a medical detox. If you are prescribed benzodiazepines now would be the time to use them - as prescribed of course. It can be really dangerous to go in this alone. I feel for you!

Lots of vitamins, hydration and rest too :sleeping_bed:

Thank you for your support!

Please be careful. Trying to detox yourself can be dangerous. I know you may not want medical assistance, but it is better to be safe during this time.

I agree with those above, it can be dangerous to detox without medical supervision. Keep hydrated for sure with something that will replace electrolytes, but I would seek medical help.

I stayed with my sister who could call for help if needed. Just don’t be alone. Good advice above also. I hear you and have been there, some of it is just time. As hard as it is, it just needs to work itself out

The first three days are the most dangerous. You can go I think shock, have seizures, arithmia to namea few. Get to the hospital. Have a friend drive you.

I tried detoxing myself, and nearly stroked out. Please go to the ER. They can give you meds that are not addicting in any form, to help ease your symptoms. They can hydrate you and monitor you for awhile, ck your vitals.... please go to the ER. You will be glad you did.

What are you detoxing from?

At least make sure you have a family member or friend you trust near to keep watch of you.

Drink less each day u can't just stop u will have a seizure and can die

I hired one of those IV companies that come to your house. They also have detox kits you can get from your doctor. They have comfort meds ect. Be careful, alcohol withdrawal is the only substance withdrawal that can kill you. Make sure you have a family member that can keep an eye on you. I had a handle a day habit and went into severe dt's at home alone. I know I had seizures, I just don't know how severe or how many. I only know because of the circumstances I woke up in. Severely dehydrated and hallucinations. It was really stupid and dangerous of me. If you need to wean yourself off, do it with a family member that can control your rations. Otherwise you risk falling back down the rabbit hole. At the very end I went to the ER. In hindsight I should have gone sooner or checked into an at least 6 day detox center. By careful. I don't know you, but I'm very proud of you for taking your addiction on. You are already much better off for it.

Go to the hospital. I went to an inpatient facility and my blood pressure was still dangerously high for days. I had nose bleeds, psychosis, shakes, vomiting, diarrhea, cold sweats, headaches, body aches, etc.

It depends what your detoxing off of. As a person who's been around the corner a couple a times, the only true and effective way is going cold turkey. It's very painful but that's why it works. You will never forget what you put yourself through to do it again. Even though we sometimes do it to ourselves again. The best home remedies I can think of are drinking plenty of liquids and electrolytes (Powerade ION4) that will keep you hydrated. Eat fruits and find a good candy to supplement the cravings with. When you start to get the leg and foot spasms calm yourself and don't panic. It makes it worse and takes away from you focusing. Rub and massage the areas while trying to gain control of them as well. The cold shakes at night are going to happen. I used to wear a jacket in the house with either a thin Tshirt or nothing underneath depending on the warmth of the jacket. Doing that regulates your body so your not getting to hot or cold. Take a few showers through out the day just to refresh yourself. They can be quick and all you need to do is run the water on your body for bit. Besides that you just have to ride it. Sprite works too. Best of luck.

Gatorade multi vitamin.
Hope you feel bad enough to stop punching yourself.
Get to a clinic if you need to feel better an tell the truth try it once
They’ll help if you do

As mentioned above, I highly recommend going to detox Dr. I'm wondering how your blood pressure is right now?

Alcohol withdrawal can kill people. Some people try to convince themselves that they're not bad enough when in fact they are. That too is part of the disease of alcoholism. Honey and orange juice is a great way to curb alcohol cravings. Any kind of sugar.

After a week or so, try to taper off the sugar. You don't want to replace one bad habit with another. Also, drink lots of water everyday and try to get a walking/stretching program going. The walking will help with the muscle spasms

The worst! Make sure you are with someone. I had a seizure withdrawing and thankfully my sister was around

2 days is the worst after day 7 you will feel better. It hurts and it sucks. Just hang in there it’s just withdraw it won’t kill you

Benzodiazepines helped me many times, drink some herbal chamiole tea, lots of fluids, I recommend Body Armour beverage , it is packed with vitamins. If not hungry sip on some chicken broth.
