I could really use some support! I am soooo desperate

I could really use some support! I am soooo desperate to get clean and get right for my family and I feel like I’m stuck in a pit of darkness and he** with no way out…I can’t believe I’m STILL trying to get clean and I’m almost 40! I’ve been trying to get clean since I was 30

Almost 40 is a lot better than Never! Downloading this app and asking for help is a helluva good start. I would definitely at least try an AA meeting fer sure. I'm super new in being sober (7 days), so I'm trying to figure it out as I go. But, if you need someone to talk to, just send a message :metal: That's what this is all about

Thank u Andrew…well 7 days is huge!! I think what really sucks is I HATE USING, I’m absolutely miserable, the only reason I’ve continued to use is because I’m a terrified of withdrawals and I also have family responsibilities of taking care of people who need me which allows me no wiggle room to feel sick for a week or even a couple days

That’s ok lol I appreciate it

I definitely understand that life situation.. I'm a father of 2 little boys and have to take them to and from school, go to work, and college, all while I was a heavy drinker. It was and still is scary being sober and having super strong cravings and trying to balance a family and life.. The only things I've found to be helpful so far is watching my favorite podcast (Steve-O: WildRide) and going for a drive on the freeway to help relax. Also talking to one or two people on here has helped a time or two

Have you tried detox and rehab? Nearly every one of us have been afraid of withdrawals. No one wants to be sick, but it’s something we had to get through to get to the other side. The other side is worth it.

You may be able to find a detox center where the process is 5-7 days, and then immediately start going to NA meetings for support & finding a new way to live. That’s less of a time commitment than residential rehab. But if you wanted to go that route, maybe family & friends will cover your responsibilities if you tell them that you’re trying to save your life. I thought that I had too much going on to go to rehab - to take myself out of the world for a month. But the world went on without me, and everything was just fine. Good luck, and just take it a day at a time.

28 days in rehab is your choice. For you. The alternatives won’t be your choice but the results will be the same. Your responsibilities will need to be met in other ways if you end up in a hospital, a jail cell or a morgue. The way I was at the end of my using career, those were my future. Recovery was the only choice I had.

I feel ya. It took my family to tell me get clean or we don’t want nothing to do with you anymore. Plus a a lot of fights and trouble with law

Start by framing things in the positive. Start small like instead of being sad about still trying to get clean be proud of yourself that you are. Use a gratitude journal too. Hope that makes a little sense.
