I have a friend that just shared on FB that AA and the 12 steps are ‘dumb’ and there are new ways to address addiction. He’s some sort of psych practitioner that is allowed to prescribe. His opinions are fine but i wouldnt knock anything that tries to help people get sober. I have a whole toolkit that i can take what i need feom whatever. I am appreciative for AA for the sober geoup of friends it has provided for me and my sponsor. Ive gone theough three sponsors and three therapists and my last sponsor is the one that has stuck and has been able to help me.
I have heard that too. There are also utube videos about AA. I made great friends thru AA meetings. I take what I need and leave the rest. I would never bash any program that works for people. It must have NOT worked for him. I know without my support I would have given up a long time ago.
I also had family say AA IS A CROCK BUT I DO ME.
A.A. saved my life.
Anyone is allowed their opinion. However, calling a program that is free of charge and has helped millions of people across the world and is the basis for all other 12 step programs “dumb” is ignorant.
It is “attraction rather than promotion”
The proof of AA’s value is in its millions of sober fellows and the amazing lives they lead today. By the grace of God and the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Whatever works for you is what you should do. The proof is in our successes. We do recover together. There are other ways, but do what you need and know that it is right for you.
I'm sorry your friend is such an idiot even if he doesn't agree with it he shouldn't down it for other people A.A saves lives
I always say everyone is different and unique do what works for u and don't pay attention to others
You do what's best for you and not someone else.
Personally, I had to get really dumb and desperate to try something as stupid as AA. Thankfully I did get to that point and it's unfortunate that it took all of that suffering to get myself in the doors. I struggled for years, agonizingly trying to fix myself. I'm also on my third sponsor since the one year mark and I've been with her for eight years now. I'm so grateful now for allowing myself to try something as 'dumb' as AA.
Lol if AA is "dumb" then I must be retarded for sticking around for the past 35+ years.
So your friend is some what of a the rapist? Yes that was a play in words yet the truth. Don't get me wrong there are good ones then there to are the bad ones those are "the rapist's".
Just like you... I'm very grateful for this program and what it has done for me and countless others.
AA is the most effective program in the history of self care!
There are other methods but literally nothing has as good of a track record for results. Nothing!!
Funny story...I don't attend AA...nothing but love and respect for the program!!
Aa saved my life and working ghe steps and fellowship save my mind abs helped me work though emotional challenges and come back to feeling
Ditto
Ditto? I did everything else but aa/ al-anon but after I wass on my knees and knuckles on the ground I went to a meeting and wondered what took me so long
AA is free and it works
I had someone tell me it's a cult While I don't attend meetings anymore, I practice their principles including taking inventory a lot, righting wrongs quickly, staying humble, walking with a HP. AA has helped millions of people
AA didn’t work for me but I respect the power the program has to help others. Each individual has to find the combination that will help them achieve sobriety and grow.
I think the thing that turns off a lot of people from AA is the fact that we learn we are not unique.
Many alcoholics suffer from terminal uniqueness. It’s an ego thing.
Me, I’m just a garden variety drunk that’s why AA works for me.
He likely has a revolutionary new way of keeping sober that can be yours for the low cost of $200 per session 50 session program.
I agree Patti!
