I just hit 6 months sober & I really thought

I just hit 6 months sober & I really thought some some of my mental issues would subside when I stopped drinking & I just feel so disappointed to still be having some really mentally tough days :pensive:

Have you done anything to facilitate a change besides just stopping drinking? Therapy, meds, step work? By getting sober it gives us an opportunity to face and deal with issues in a different way. I had to go on meds because my brain got all rewired and I finally had the clarity to face past traumas. It’s great that you are 6 months clean! Congrats on that. Keep it up!

Tim and I have a similar experience, stopping drinking was one part of working on a larger set. Not drinking has been a big part of my over all well being.

Congratulations on those hard earned 6 months. Helps to get plugged into something other than yourself. Meetings, Fellowshipping, a power other than yourself. Hope you can find some tools to help you get calm. Just don’t pick up. You’ll find a balance eventually.

There is a zoom meeting today..at 6 pm EST or 3 pm west coast time ..it’s a dual diagnoses meeting..so it’s an AA meeting but they incorporate mental health into their discussions /shares bc let’s face it alcoholism and mental health go hand in hand ! It’s an amazing meeting . You should join if u can! Lmk if you want the zoom link :relaxed:

I know you’ll find a path forward. Ethanol will do absolutely nothing to help. Great work on the 6 months!!

Congratulations on achieving 6 months!! For me, I have added therapy to my recovery regimen, along with meetings, steps and sponsorship. Hope that helps. Thank-you

I struggle every day with self worth issues, loneliness, and the very real thought that I will never have a good life because I essentially started at 32, when I got sober. It’s really really tough. You are not alone

May I ask , the meetings an steps. Is in groups like a therapy? Are they therapist? Do you have to sign in these meetings? Sorry if these are ignorant questions I

I think most people have mental issues of some sort sober or not. It’s just some people are better at hiding those issues than others. I want to say statistically 68% of Americans have depression or anxiety. I could be wrong on the exact percentage but I’d be willing to say it’s more. So you are not alone.

Bri, getting sober takes quite awhile for our brains and body to re wire. (My doctor told me roughly 6 months actually) And though sobriety feels amazing, we still experience life on life's terms. Try to stay positive on the hard days! I know that despite how great i feel in early sobriety, i can't just go off my mental health meds. Not saying you are on any! The tools of the program have also helped me through the difficult days, without having to drink to cope. Hope this helps! Congrats on 6 months!
