TG, right on. I’m coming up on 2-years sobriety April 5th. I plan on having it done by then. 🫶🏽:call_me_hand:t4:
Some tips for step 4 :
Don’t hold back: Be honest as it can help open you up to the other steps of AA and your recovery process.
Trust yourself: It can be challenging to trust yourself if you’ve made mistakes; however, taking a moral inventory can help you develop trust in yourself over time.
Work with your sponsor: They can offer support and suggestions on how to take moral inventory in a way that works best for you.
Baylee, I appreciate your reply. I’m coming up on 2-years sobriety, April 5, 2023. I’m early in my recovery but totally resolved in completing the steps.
My entire life is different from when I was in the height of my active addictions…

You begin the Journey of the 4th step. Starting with step 1. Writing things out on paper so you can See it clearly. Most people come to RECOVERY. Driven by their LIABILITIES. SO A PERSON looks at all the negative things in their inventory. Not knowing. Hidden behind all of that are There ASSETS that they don't take under consideration. TRUST THE PROCESS AND YOU WILL MAKE IT. I just celebrated 35 years this month and still working on myself. YOU CAN DO THIS
Joseph, outstanding brother. Congratulations! Thank you for sharing! 🫶🏽
Leave it to us alcoholics to overcomplicate things🤣
Hahaha, makes me smile BIG!
I strongly disagree with many of the comments here. Step 4 is only part of the recovery process. No, there is no mention of a time frame but It says we made a searching and FEARLESS moral inventory. Not a FEARFUL inventory.
If you're struggling with Step 4 then you need to go back and do steps 2 and 3 again. Step three states that we made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood him.
If God is in charge of your life now, what do you have to be fearful of?
Many people poke around with step 4 because, let's face it, writing out our inventory is not fun. It's not supposed to be fun. But it is a very necessary step if we are going to make a full recovery and have the promises come true in our lives.
The sooner that you get your inventory completed, the sooner you will be able to move on with the rest of your recovery process.
And I'm here to tell you, I've seen many, many people poke around with their inventory. Days turn into weeks. Weeks turn into months and then they end up relapsing and wonder why.
You should put as much effort into your fourth step as you did into your drinking.
Below is a link to the promises. If you want these promises to come true in your life then you need to get moving on your inventory so that you can move forward with the rest of your recovery. I tell you this because I've been there and I've seen this dozens of times.
The end result is much better than what you're feeling right now and I want you to experience this in your life but in order for you to experience this you have to go through the necessary steps.
If you miss something in step four you can always add it to step 10 later on.
Now go to the right thing.
@Dave — I just got out of my a meeting and I’m going to knock out my step for today. Excellent advice my brother thank you. 🫶🏽
You already went through the bad stuff, all you have to do now is write it down. You’ll be glad you did. I felt physically lighter after I finished my 4th step, it was an amazing experience.
@Brad H — I am heading to the library to get it done! 🫶🏽:call_me_hand:t4:
My advice is to do it as soon as possible, don’t over complicate it, do a too 8 or 10 and get it done. You can always revisit it later (AND SHOULD). Don’t build so much pressure to do it perfect. Just get it done and move forward. Then when you’ve completed the steps go back through them.
Remember, you can always add more later if you forget something. Don’t stress on it too much. What I did is.made it an enjoyable experience, like you’re getting rid of things you no longer want or need. That’s what I did & what worked for me, anyway.
You just made my day!
@Randy — I’m going to get it done TODAY! I appreciate your solid advice. 🫶🏽
I understand you Emile, i had the same beginning exactly….i did the best i could because as ive learned ….it is a freeing experience and you will write nothing down that has not been written down before….be courageous …Keith Kayle
Emile
Did you finish your 4th?
You said we're getting it done that day.
Just curious
@Dave Started, completed 6, realized this step may take a while. Getting ready to head to the meeting and will continue working on it today.
OK
Glad you're going to meetings.
Dave, I go to at least one or two a day.
