I really haven’t craved alcohol til today-day 10 😩

Welp it’s finally hit me. I’ve been thinking about how much I wish I could have wine all day. It’s sneaks in my head I push the thought away. Couple hours later there it is again. I distract myself. I went to yoga, grocery shopped, went on a 5 mile hike, ate dinner early, and now I’m just sitting here wondering what else I can do. I’m single, divorced… my friends (I don’t really have a good solid base of single friends since the divorce. And since I spent most of my nights in at home stuffing the divorce pain into a cup filled with wine and not seeking any out now here I am with no sober single friends) are with their families because it’s the weekend. Just me the dog and the cat alone in the house Since my 18-year-old son is out with his friends. It’s so interesting because I know there’s other things I can be doing but instead I’m just sitting here turning that thought of craving over and over in my mind and you can see how insidious this disease is. I think I’m going to go to the bookstore and get an old-fashioned book. If anyone else out there is having this kind of day please don’t do it— The drink, the smoke, the whatever you are trying to stay sober from. Do something else. Something that’s good for you. And if you are that person and you are trying to find something else to do respond to me what you did :heart:

I’m feeling the exact same way. Realizing how much of my time revolved around drinking. We can get through it though. It’s worth it.

I did go to the bookstore and I went to the grocery store afterwards and got some vegan ice cream lol and now I’m going to take a shower and crawl in bed with my new book called “euphoric-ditch alcohol and gain a happier more confident you” and you know what it was fun to go to the bookstore and it was fun to eat some ice cream and I’ll remember both of them tomorrow🤣

I'm so proud of you for finding/using other resources to help you stay sober. It's not easy to do.

Keep taking it 1 day at a time.

I used to just cry lol, I would cry through it if I had to, own that feeling and let it pass. Cups of tea, or diffusing oils, I could never focus enough to watch or read anything, so I would get so frustrated I cried through it, a lot built up over 11 years so I let it all out little by little. Those are few and far between now :raised_hands:t3:. Keep up the hard work! It’s fantastic realizing how strong you are! :black_heart:

Thanks for sharing. I have 18 months but I get that thought at least once a day. Every time im at a store that sells it. Every time I'm watching TV and they're drinking in it. When I'm hot and want a cold one. In when I'm cold and want something to warm me from the inside. When I'm lonely and when I'm having to be around people. 🤷

For me the thought is always: I could have just one. But then I can quickly ask myself, if I had a bottle in my hand, would I have just one? Nope. I would want all of it. And then more. So no I can't have just one. I just keep going through that cycle. Don't know if that will ever change?

I am on day 26 and I still have the craving sometimes. You seem to know what to do to keep your mind in the right place. I agree completely with you about it being harder being alone. It's just me and my dog. My youngest at 18 moved out last month. And I don't have many sober friends at all.

You’re not alone! I’ve been on my own quite a bit since getting sober (25 days ago, oof) & considering I’m 30, never been married, and have no kids, it gets very lonely. I’ve been doing a lot of reading and brainstorming different activities to try. This app has been really helpful. I’m so proud of you, ten days is a REALLY BIG DEAL!!!!!!!!:yellow_heart::yellow_heart::yellow_heart:

Good for you doing things to keep you busy. I need to work on that myself. I work from home and a lot of days I have nothing to work on so I would day drink. I’m only on day 2 and feel pretty good but I know I’m the days to come it will get harder. Reading and talking to people here has already helped me to be motivated and inspired.

I know how it is, near the restaurant I cook at there’s a liquor store. What helps me is my family, the gym and of course video games. I know everyone’s different in what keeps them sober but what seems the same to me is the things we got from getting sober

This seems to be the first step, after deciding that my habits weren’t doing me any favors. I plan to make a list of all the positives - saving money - my skin - my memory - my weight - my relationship with others - my coping skills - being more present - not avoiding company or outings because I’ve chosen to drink. I try not to put too much pressure on myself. I’m scared I won’t always be this strong and the things on the list won’t matter as much to me in the moment. But today, I’ve got this! You’ve got this! Thank you for sharing.

Swimming seems to help my stress. I have a feeling you won't be single long. Just make sure you are ready.
