I relapsed yesterday and I feel terrible. I just need prayer

No you used yesterday. You relapse before that and didn't reach out for help. The relapse is the mental and spiritual lapse. Once you're drinking, you're just drinking. The relapse is over. Once alcohol and drugs are physically out of your body, it's a choice

Be grateful to wake up to start over again.

Don’t beat yourself up. It’s a ā€œlapseā€

While a lapse is short-lived, a relapse entails the loss of recovery gains already made, which means the person falls back into using the unwanted substance or engaging in the undesired behavior.

Actually, prayer can and does work. I don’t know you or Rose and your faith background, but she asked for prayers so maybe she believes it can, I don’t know? Sponsors and meetings may be good for some, but not all. I’ve seen people dedicated to that and still relapse. So, AA isn’t always gonna be the savior for everybody.

Hang in there. :pray::purple_heart:

AA worked for many years.

"Rarely have we seen a person fail who has thoroughly followed our path."

The only reason it hasn't worked in recent years is because many people these days think that they are smarter than the program!

Another contribution is that people are just too lazy these days. They want to solve everything from their cell phones. That's why Loosid is so popular.

I get that, but, it just isn’t for everybody. I worked it years ago, didn’t help me. I used to be a licensed clinical addictions therapist, and I’ve seen many people who truly worked it and still struggled. The program isn’t the savior of alcoholism to all. For me personally, I was smarter than the program, I found other things that were better for me. I’ve also counseled people into and through successful recovery using therapeutic approaches. Everybody’s recovery is individual to themselves. All I say is what works for one isn’t always gonna work for another.

New day! Don’t beat yourself up

Yes ! Figuring out what we were feeling when decided to take the first drink is key . Once we can recognize and cope with that feeling we can try to use a different way other than drinking :purple_heart:

That is such great advice :purple_heart:

Same ! I relapsed for years and years ... rehab twice , nothing stuck - until it did. Today is day 66 :grinning: super congrats on 3 years thats terrific !!

Don’t worry we fall down but we get right back upšŸ™šŸ¾

After 7 years? Wow ... addiction is just so powerful ! What a good reminder that we can never forget that relapse can happen anywhere along the path ! Congrats on getting back on track :purple_heart:

You got this Rose. Do not give up.

I am so sorry! Don’t be hard on your self. Overcoming addiction and healing is a process. There is a saying in Buddhism called ā€œbeginners mindā€ it means we always have the present moment to start again. Don’t focus on your past or future just be here now and try again. Love yourself. You can do this. Peace.

So sorry. Relapsing is the worst and I hate that you’re having to deal with the aftermath. I’ve been there, it’s definitely hard to take in once the fog clears.
