I was told no romantic relationships for a year. Why?

That's hilarious. Some people need to learn a lesson from First hand experience not just being told

You gotta figure everything out before you make any major changes

Def no dating for the first year. It’s hard enough getting through the first year and learning what it is to be sober and what you want out of life sober. Finding a partner after that is much better.

Exactly if it happens to find you then why reject?

I’m actually glad I listened to my sponsor on that one. I needed to figure out who I am, love myself before being able to let anyone else love me. I’m almost at 3 years and just now ready to dip my toes in the dating pool but have no freakin clue how to do that in sobriety. Clearly the bar scene never worked out for me in the past so I’m clueless …lol

Everyone's recovery and sobriety is their own. Limiting someones possibility to finding "the one" doesn't really help anyone.

They say that so you can concentrate on yourself. Because when you first get clean especially if you have been ripping and running for a LONG TIME a year is nothing to focus on why you ended up on an app like this one HAAA HAAA..... however I also believe that each person and each situation is different. Some really are sicker than others and a relationship completely takes the focus off of getting well to making sure someone else is well while your still sick. I think they make to big of a deal about it but it's no different then anything else in life. Some go for it and have a great relationship and it works out great some not so much, but how is that any different then life in general I got absolutely no clue :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

I'm on the fence. If it finds me during the year I'm all for it but I'm not actually looking so much either. I also don't believe it's wise to fall for anyone in the program. But those are my opinions and kudos to those who found theirs there.

Hear ya on that one lol. I went back to school found a good job and waited 3 1/2 years to start dating. It wasn’t a priority until now

I completely agree. The universe speaks and you have to listen.

Great reason! You’re not in your right mind for at least a year! You need to work on yourself for at least a year. Seriously. Take it from me. I got involved too soon. My brain wasn’t clear for at least a year. Find yourselves. Be happy with yourself alone. Find someone else who is happy being alone. Then you will be healthy- both of you. No neediness! Don’t exchange your drug for a person. It won’t turn out well:cry::smiling_face_with_three_hearts:Wait wait wait. Pray and wait . Let God bring you together

Well for me I like to date it gives me something to do besides set and home getting bored

I like to read and follow the big book of Alcoholics Anonymous. I don’t recall reading anything in that book about one off from relationships. What I did read is that we should take a look at our past sexual conduct and make the necessary changes moving forward. One thing I can say from experience is that early on I had a couple girl friends and a few friends with benefits. As I grew spiritually so did what I wanted in a relationship. After I did my faith step I really saw how selfish I had been towards women and relationships with women. So I’m taking a back seat on getting into an intimate relationship for now. I’m more interested in build up meaningful relationships/friendships. So far so good. I’m not into causing anymore harm.

Just remember, when you get to one year sobriety that doesn’t automatically mean you should start dating. It also doesn’t mean that you have to wait a full year either. It means that when you’re working a good program and spiritually fit, that’s when you’re probably ready for a relationship.

My honest opinion I think it depends on the person obviously your sobriety comes first and yes you do need to relearn to love yourself again before you can love somebody else I wouldn't say you have to wait a year I think you should go by what's in your heart I just always keep your sobriety number one even over the person you choose to be with just my take on it thanks for listening

Yeah I’ve tried to do that since I was like 18 and I’m like 50 now never has worked

There’s just some stuff you got to get over before you start relying on everybody else to make everything else good for you. It’s been tough I’m not gonna lie it’s been lonely I’m not gonna lie but it’s been good when you give yourself some time to figure out who you are without somebody else

Do not do it!!!!!!!!!
