Well you certainly won’t get sober if you give up! If you want something you’ve never had, you will have to do things you have never done. What are you doing to try to stay sober? Getting plugged into a program (there are an assortment, including AA, The Luckiest Club, Recovery Dharma, SMART Recovery, and Celebrate Recovery) is certainly helpful and will help provide tools to get and stay sober. If you have tried one program and didn’t jive try another.

Thank you I will, I never heard of some of those

Just looked up luckiest club, can’t afford that

Every day is a new day. Try again. I have trouble with the resentment step. But I found that writing everything down, good or bad, helps get it out. Sometimes we aren't able to talk with the people whom we have resentment for. I didn't have a notebook so I used a large envelope, something mailed to me. It's all over the place. But I have goals and a lot of negative feelings randomly written. My way of venting about certain things. Also there are many ways to get through recovery. It's more than just AA meetings.

Thank you, one of my biggest problems is communicating my feelings!! Any suggestions

$14 a month can be steep for some, but it has been extremely helpful for many. There are others that don’t have a membership fee.

Try not picking up for one day. Then do it again the next day. Then the next day....

I’ve said that before! ...O2-28-2OO2js

Hi Jeffrey! The only thing you should give up on is your drinking. How much do you think you spend on alcohol/drugs a month? Do you ever miss hours at work due to your issues. Could you find a part time gig to make an extra $14 per month? Nothing is going to change unless you make it happen. AA/NA doesn’t cost anything. Let’s go my man. There is help out there, but you gotta be willing to put in some effort. I have seen people recover that have been in similar or worse positions than you. You can do this

Might I suggest starting with keeping a journal? Exercising the effort to find the words to describe my feelings, has assisted my understanding and acceptance of my feelings.

You can’t do it alone. I don’t know if you have an aversion to AA. If so get over it. Do you want to stay sober or not? It’s your best bet and doesn’t cost you a dam thing. Go to a meeting. The next day, go to a meeting. The day after that…that’s how we get/stay sober. Just being straight with you man.

You can do it my friend. I know its so hard but if you really want it you can do it. Surround yourself with sober people only. Change your phone and your phone number. Go into a program after you do it. But even if you do all that it's all on your want my friend. If you are determined to drink or get high again you will. It only works if you work it. Which I'm sure you have heard before. Maybe get a blocker shot or a craving reducer shot to help you fight

Remember it’s the first drink.

Never give up! Don’t take that 1st drink!

I basically drank a bottle of whiskey a day for 25 years. Sometimes it was vodka or tequila. Sometimes I was in a hospital or jail and couldn’t drink. Sometimes I took a night off to prove to myself that I could. But mostly, I drank.

And now I don’t. And I got sober in a 12 step program. I put my preconceived notions aside and dug in. And I’m so grateful that my life got to a point where sobriety was my only option that I could live with. I couldn’t have come in 1 minute sooner than I did, because there is no recovery without a willingness to change everything.

Change your wording. If you continue to say you won't- you won't.

When I said “I give up”, it was my moment. Surrender. I was in bed in rehab (about day 16). Couldn’t sleep. It was the wee hours of the morning. I gave up. I gave up trying to figure it out on my own. From that moment on, I did everything they told me to do. It was truly a spiritual experience.
