Just think of the negative impact alcohol has caused you. That’s what keeps me going

Play the tape through. You pick up that drink- it may give temporary relief but what happens after? You are worth sobriety. I couldn't do it alone and suggest finding a sober network - AA or another group- that can help you on this journey.

Also - the fact that you are on here and self aware enough to recognize you want to give up before just impulsively grabbing a drink shows a lot of strength.

Life can be hard when you are sober but it's always hard when you drink. I hope you don't drink, Naomi.

I sure can't think of any reasons not to keep going. Please hang in there Naomi! No good could possibly come from quitting your sobriety.

You may make your life and maybe others more difficult and challenging and painful. You don’t have to. I hope you can hold on. I’m rooting for you.

Naomi, I drank until my body couldn't take it anymore. I laid in bed for a year and a half. I was dieing I finally got a liver transplant at MUSC to save my life. I only had days to live when I got the transplant. And as lucky as I am I still want to drink. I know I can't. Alcohol is strong and it will kill. The only thing saving me is helping you and thinking of not letting the great doctors and nurses who put me back together. Now I have a new life.

I always tell my sponcee’s the same thing. If you are about ready to give up and go back out to call me and give me a good reason and how it’s going to improve your life. If I think it’s going to benefit you or me I’ll buy the first round. Added by we both better be done with living, relationships, shelter, financial stability, health, family, self love, self respect and the list goes to infinity. At the end I add play the tape through to the very end and tell me if that’s what you want and if you are willing to trade your sobriety for that miserable life that you already lived once and expect a different result, then that’s your decision but if you want this rough patch to get smooth again and remain sober, get to a meeting and do the work inside yourself to repair the rough spot your in. Happiness, contentment and serenity come with self work and growth in sobriety. Please don’t pick back up before the miracle happens

Hi Naomi. 7 years+ of sobriety right?
The reasons you got sober in the first place should always be a reminder. We also take a moment to remember our last bender. Our last debauch.
I suggest doing some inventory because from my experience the some internal work that hasn’t been resolved is something that can take us out. I suggest reaching out to your sponsor and seeing what they think. I suggest reaching out to a new comer so you can remember that our disease is alive and well.
