Insomnia

First night was full of tossing & turning. Has anyone else experienced this? How long did your insomnia last?

Everyone is different. Mine was a long period. Thing is, if you keep up the struggle it is guaranteed to get better. Just hang in there. Things like sleepy time tea, chamomile tea, can help. Along with YouTube sounds in the background like white noise. Just hang tough. It’s gonna get better.

Danielle, for me it was like the first 6 months of sobriety. I would be restless all night and tired all day. I noticed that caffeine really had a huge effect on my sleep. Also, stress plays a big role. Every once in awhile I’ll get a case of the restless leg syndrome. I do believe it will get better. Try exercising more during the day. Long walks. I feel that when I really tire out my mind and body I sleep well. Plus the food we eat also plays a role in our sleep. Meditation can help as well.

GREAT ideas everyone! Thank you so much!! Xo

I agree with all the above. Mine lasted about a week. Exercise plays a huge role. Get some sun and activity in if you can. Melatonin, sleepy time tea, read before bed. But yes it will slowly but surely get better. It’s worth the struggle. I’m newly sober at 9 days and am starting to actually sleep finally

Yes I’ve experienced it, and tossing and turning means restless legs—took me years to realize it and the dr gave me non narcotic ropinirol and it worked wonders

Hi Jory, what meds are you on? I am taking trazodone and busphar. I fall asleep but don’t stay asleep. Any insight?

I was on Xanax for 12-15 years but detoxed off them in rehab along with alcohol in December. Nothing has really helped me since.

Yea I was prescribed that also years ago and had little affect.
20 + years ago all I could get was 3-4 hours a night - I was suicidal. I’ll tell you what has worked and turned my life around but everybody’s system is different. I suggest talking with a psychiatrist and it might take some trial before finding what works for you. The generic names are Prosom, Serequel, and Celexa.
Good luck Wedad.

Xanax helped me too much. Helped me have a seizure and bust my head open during the shutdown when the pharmacies and drs office closed at the beginning of COVID.
I hit my head on beveled tile in my bathroom that day and might have died if my neighbors didn’t hear me go down. I don’t remember anything from that day. I also couldn’t get off the stuff on my own. Anyways I have been off Xanax since December. Trazodone is ok. I get about 5 hours which I will take right now. I haven’t went back to work yet. I’m going back in 2 weeks and I’m worried.
I heard serequel works well. I have 2 friends who swear by it, both men and both gained a lot of weight on it. It doesn’t look like you have that problem. You’re lucky. Is it genetics?
