It’s a strange thing to realize that you don’t really have any friends after choosing sobriety.
They were never your friends to begin with. Huge supply of new friends waiting in the wings now. Welcome to a new true friended life.
When ur not sober u hang with people who are also not sober making the choice to better yourself in sobriety unfortunately our friends at the time aren’t in a place to do the same. Meet and talk to people you have decided to make the same decision as you or at least can respect what your doing. They are out there I promise. Just keep looking and keep staying sober!
I’ve begun to realize and accept that.
I’m excited for the future friends and communities ahead of me.
It is weird though, I always relied on substance to make friends or just be social. And having to figure out how to go and make actual friends is a whole other concept I’m still trying to wrap my head around. Thankful for the apps like this that make it a little easier.
Ughh it’s sucks but the longer we were living that life style means it was pretty much every aspect of our lives. Its like if you got rid of every single thing in our house everything you’ve ever had. And then had to get everything again. It’s gonna take time and a lot of effort but I know for me it’s worth it
I can definitely agree with that!
You have come to a pretty amazing realization that is going to change your life for the better. Try attending some women’s AA meetings. Having some sober sisters in your life will make a big difference and alleviate the loneliness. They will love to have you as a friend.
It's very unfortunate that everyone doesn't see how you view the positive and changes in your life. Sometimes I think people are in denial of the things that keep them at bay. Sometimes they don't know how to develop a friendship without alcohol. There are tons of things or ways to continue that relationship without the use of involving alcohol. Hikes, activities, movies, coffee, flea markets, travel, so many things in life to do but people don't always want to think outside the box and grow their friendship beyond how it may have started. Just a sign of your growth as a person.
It happens but we're not living that path anymore..But hey you got New Friends you got us..
I’m grateful for everybody here.
Yup I agree with you but then you realize who your real friends are
Yep. I had a big group of drinking buddies. Not one of them has called me, stopped by, anything in almost 3 years. But that’s fine. I’m not doing this for them.
And through sobriety we make new friends who are relating to us more.
I agree. This app has helped me alot. The support from others who know what your going through and kind and encoring words make all the difference. We are in this together. Have a great day
Good friends will always be there for you but maybe they are adjusting to the new you and need to hear from you how you feel and ask for support
My recovery friends are the best friends I’ve ever had. I don’t need to pose in front of them. They know my shit and still love me. I’ve started to make some pretty good (healthy) friendships in martial arts too.
Friends run really fast .when we get sober.but you don’t want them any way. There not friends .
Friends you make in recovery are the best ones. If those “friends” aren’t willing to be and help with the new sober you, they weren’t your friends to begin with. It’s a hard pill to swallow, but it will feel better once you keep working on yourself!
I had a guy tell me once “misery loves company” so find some new happy people to be around
