guys my social worker just told me he spoke to the local ketamine treatment place and they’re gonna call him back about new patients!!! thanks to all of you who suggested that, it’d be life changing if it actually helped me!!!! i’m so excited
Nobody wants to put in work.
When building a house, the foundation must be sturdy. Sometimes that means we must lay brick by brick to get the foundation level and strong. However this is not always the best or only option. New homes are now put on a concrete slab that is poured and quickly ready to build upon. Is the foundation less of a foundation because it is a newer, faster method?
The same could be said of sobriety. While the tried and true is preferred, there are instances where it will not work.
i’ve been in therapy since i was 7 years old and have been put on every medication under the sun. don’t judge me when you have no idea about my past?
also to everyone i might add this is for my MENTAL HEALTH not my addiction that i am focusing on
Ouch, the truth hurts but thank for being really honest. I’m getting off subs for sure
I’m on three separate medications right now for my depression & anxiety that are currently saving my life. In addition to seeing a therapist weekly, & taking other steps. Medication, etc might not be right for you, but it is necessary for others. If you’ve seen any of her other posts, she’s going through a lot right now, and comments like this can be so f*cking hurtful & detrimental.
thank you! i thought that comment was really out of line and i’m not offended easily. i’m trying my best!
I posted about this a few weeks ago. I think you can look up my posts and find it. I did a lot research and decided it wasn’t for me. That being said, I did read some studies that had positive results. I passed for several reasons. I was progressing pretty well with regular therapy and my program of recovery. My therapist didn’t feel like it the “risk” (addiction) was worth the reward in my particular case. The treatment is best for those who suffer from severe ptsd, and I don’t fall into that category. Everyone is different. Just be honest with your doctors and be mindful of your medical history and condition. Either way, get involved in a recovery program and stay sober
It was incredibly out of line. Thank you for continuing to share with us. I’m proud of you for fighting.
i’ll check your post out. i’m suffering from severe ptsd (i was r*ped last year and haven’t been able to get over it or understand it). i researched this a lot. it’s not like i was just like ooooo a drug treatment yay! and it’s just a consultation while i also finally get a new psych cos my last one didn’t listen to me at all
I didn't judge you at all. You might feel judged, but I didn't direct my comment at you or anyone in particular. I responded to K. Brad's comment, not yours. Don't trip.
for sure. i apologize i hope i didn’t bother you. i know we’re all overwhelmed with our own s*it right now. i certainly am
Nah you're not bothering me at all.
Yeah what’s up with that guy?
New studies show SSRI’s don’t work the way we think they did. More and more research is going into alternative therapies, like ketamine and mushrooms. They don’t just dole this stuff out. An AA friend who is a vet with PTSD just last week asked if I could drive him to the VA for ketamine treatment recommended by his long term doctor.
If you have good doctors and mental health professionals, trust them. Sponsors and people online only know the way they got sober, the should never be giving medical or psych advice.
yes exactly!!! i’ve been on dozens of SSRIs, antidepressants, antipsychotics they either make me feel no emotions, feel no difference, or want to die. i wanna try something new
I want to add, since it’s on my mind.
The AA friend who asked me for rides to the VA for ketamine therapy did so very discreetly because he didn’t want the responses you saw above. I have to wonder why anyone would judge a disabled vet for getting therapy recommended by the VA?? If you aren’t a doctor, stay in your lane…. Please.
I’m a big fan of doing the work but I find that work alone isn’t enough for all - chemical imbalances, trauma, etc. I found a great program on Netflix called “how to change your mind” and it dives into the therapeutic benefits of certain “drugs” (dirty word I know, but it fits this context). After all, Bill W. had a profound and life changing experience with LSD which could of, cannot be 100% proven, lead to the formulation of AA.
I honestly think most everyone here has good intentions. Whether we are conversing about various types of treatments, higher powers, Gods, politics, or religion, let’s all be mindful that we are all here searching for help. We have all been thru he!l. Alcoholism/Addiction beats the heck out of us on many levels. Let’s all work on being a little more loving and tolerant of each other’s differences and beliefs, while we continue to support one another. Many of us have no family or support at home. Most of us suffer from different degrees of anxiety and depression. We need each other. Outsiders will never understand us. The last thing anyone wants to do is chase away a newcomer with a comment that may be taken the wrong way. Let’s deliver our tough love…with love
