Hello.. is anyone in the Denver metro area? I am looking for a sponsor. I am finally ready to do the work and be sober.
Dm me, I don't want to get to personally with the substance addiction.
I have alot of friends that are all over.
Do not listen to any men trying to sponsor you. Find a sponsor at a women's meeting. Check this out:
Just for shits and giggles, why do you say to not listen to any men trying to sponsor a female?
Women stick with the women it works much better for you I promise! Find a sponsor at a ftf meeting just find a spot who has a sponsor and has what you want. She will be honored you asked. Make sure they have a working knowledge of the steps too:pray:
Because that is the way young Jedi lol
And I understand that it usually tends to be better having someone of the same gender, but it’s not necessarily a requirement for success. Finding someone that can truly help shouldn’t be dependent upon their gender.
Good deal.
Get to a women’s meeting and talk after the meeting. You’re sure to find someone that will sponsor you.
Because men shouldn't be trying to sponsor women. It's pretty basic.
So with you thinking that, and I’m not saying you’re 100% wrong, but do you believe male therapists shouldn’t counsel females and vice versa?
That's not a fair comparison. We are talking about AA. Drunks helping drunks.
It can be a fair comparison. Some therapists have also had previous issues with addiction and have gotten life back on track, and treat addicts, or mental health concerns and treat clients with current concerns. And in terms of AA, drunks helping drunks, why would a man not be a good fit for a woman, or vice versa? Some people relate better to opposite genders for various reasons. It’s about trust and dignity, gender shouldn’t stop someone from being able to help another.
I agree with Taylor…. The potential is there
There are recommendations in any program. No ones recovery is exactly like anyone else’s.
However, those that find success, tend to follow the recommendations.
Find someone that shows involvement and success. Someone that is successfully working a program.
Blah blah blah. Look, I have seen quite a few guys reach out to sponsor women both at meetings as well as this site. All of them had strong creep vibes. That's just a fact. The AA program traditionally has women sponsor women and men sponsor men. That's how it is.
There are some amazing women here that I’m sure that would sponsor you.
Do you go to meetings?
Hello Anissa. Reach out to family members and spend more time with them. They are your sponsors. They know your in recovery and can relate what you’re going through. Spend quality time that doesn’t require you to be there when they are drinking. Have the willpower to go this. It will get better. AA isn’t always the answer for recovery it’s all up to you to make the right decisions and quit on your own. Recovery is hard but you can do this. Stay safe and sober.
If you understood the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous you would know why men sponsor men and women sponsor women. You’ll understand if you work the program.
That’s more of an opinion not so much a fact with everybody. I understand it can be true that some men may have negative or inappropriate intentions, but that doesn’t speak to all who try to help. I’m a dually licensed therapist so when I reach out to help, men or women, it’s out of true care and concern to actually help so someone who is actually trying to help shouldn’t be judged based on some others previous intentions. It’s all opinion and experience. People can do what they want regardless of what others say, it’s about finding someone trustworthy and comfortable.
I do understand the 12 steps, I’ve taught classes on it for men and women. I’ve attempted to use it myself long ago, didn’t work for me, I found other ways and treatment for myself over the years, but I understand the program. I’m not saying it’s wrong, but it’s not specific to each individual, everybody is individual and may have different ways for sobriety. Recommendations are just that, and even those aren’t guaranteed to help, it’s about finding what works best regardless of what has worked for others. I see it everyday in my career. Everybody can have their views on it and that’s ok, as long as people are getting and staying sober.
