My anxiety is at an all time high. I was so used to drinking to help me and now I realize it only made things worse. Another day accomplished without a drink.
Welcome! The only drink you need to avoid is the first one! I never knew I had anxiety issues until I became sober. Now I need medication for depression, anxiety and also to help heal the neurological damage done over the years. It’s not easy being sober. But you aren’t alone! This community is wonderful so I believe we are BOTH in the right place!

Thank you so much. I didn’t have anxiety either. I’m going thru the same things it’s good not to feel alone.

Your not alone. We are here for you. Anxiety is a real hard thing to deal with
Yes it is. It has been unbearable sometimes. I feel just mentally exhausted after I have anxiety attack or panic attack. It’s super scary
The attacks will lessen with time and as you heal. We have all felt with and gone through them. Like Jason, I also need meds now to regulate my anxiety and depression. But after a year I am living free of the panic and fear that once crippled me. You got this take it a day or even a minute at a time.
Thank for those inspiring words.
Just try to breath and be positive. Your not doing drinking so your doing great. I know it can be hard
It gets sooooo much better. One day at a time. One moment at a time.
I found that sober I feel the benefits of meditation and mindfulness practices so much more now. It can be as easy a ten minute guided meditation on YouTube to help ease the anxiety.
It does get better the longer you are sober so there's a light at the end of the tunnel.
Try 4-7-8 breathing.
I was reading again last night about how drinking is just a band aid for anxiety. And that when the effects of alcohol wear off anxiety comes back at increased levels. We’ve all experienced this- I know I have. It’s something I try to keep in mind. Hope that’s helpful
One thing I will say at almost 11 months sober is that my anxiety is at an all time low.
I also exercise twice a day now, though, and lift weights just to stay sane.
Tremendous effort keeping breathing!
Walking helped me so much when I was detoxing. I would take my dog for 2 hour walks and it just helped. Also I highly recommend cooking never thought I’d get into it but I signed up for something called everyplate (6 meals for 65 dollars total) and it is almost meditation to me.
Thank you all for your kinds words i appreciate the support!
Same here Jason, I wish I knew all of this about 15 years ago, things are much better now. Hang in there!
Have you started therapy? I'm medicated for my depression and anxiety, and I have very few urges. I'm a little over 100 days sober, and I give a lot of credit to the fact that I'm medicated. I couldn't tell you the last time I had a panic attack.
I am grateful you’re here. Keep sharing the first days are tough but your doing it!
