New here and need help

I have come to accept that I am an alcoholic on Friday. I haven’t had a drink since but I’ve been a “functioning alcoholic” for many years and I don’t want to live with it anymore.

Welcome! Glad you're here. I would write more, but I'm hopping in the car to head to an AA meeting. It's my buddy's 5 month anniversary today. A week ago I hit 4 years.
We do recover!

That is really great, congrats!! I’m in the parking lot of a meeting right now that starts in 30 minutes, it’ll be my first one.

Stay active with one or multiple groups. It’ll give you a good idea of what could happen if you continue to drink. It will also help keep you grounded.
Good luck! Don’t be scared to try a different meeting every time. You will eventually find one that is a good fit.

So glad you’re here! Admitting I was an alcoholic for the first time was absolutely terrifying but it also took the biggest weight off my shoulders. You got this. ODAT :black_heart:

Kyle I don't know if you are familiar with A.A. meetings but if you are get there and surround yourself with people who are like minded, who know the struggle and who will help you learn how it is that we make it one day at a time, some days are going to be easier than others but don't give up, let people know what you're going through, there are also suggestions that we have in the meetings, get a sponsor and a home group, work the steps of the program with that sponsor and lastly, welcome, we're here for you brother

Recovery does NOT have to be boring or embarrassing … I just finished a four-day work trip in New Orleans, of all places, and while my colleagues drank away, I enjoyed the fun atmosphere, drank my club soda and lime, then headed back to the hotel to wake up feeling ready to hit the long day of meetings, while a lot of my co-workers were struggling with hangovers - I do NOT miss those! And I do not feel like I ‘miss out’ at all on anything anymore. Drinking and it’s consequences cost me a whole lot more than any fun I thought I was having. Super happy for you, Lyle!

The advice I give to people starting this journey is to get peoples phone numbers and use them. You don’t have to do this alone. If you get use to calling people when you don’t need them, it will be easier to call when you do. Stay strong.

I'm in agreement that you are in a BIG TURNAROUND. BELIEVE in yourself. TRUST the process.

Welcome! AA saved my life. This app is a way for me to log my journey.

Go to a meeting, identify as new, find a sponsor and work the steps. Life can be so beautiful sober.
