New to this app. Trying to set it up, but I have 3 different sober dates and it only allows for one. So anyways, I’ve been sober from pills for 678 days, marijuana for 403 days and from alcohol for about 3 months. I’ve felt pretty good, but still have challenges weekly, sometimes daily. It does feel good to not wake up regretting the previous day.
That’s what keeps it going sometimes. Remembering how terrible we once felt and not wanting to go back there. Keep your mind fit and those days will get easier with the right tools. Life is hard whether we are sober or not but we are better equipped to handle it when we’re sober.
One day at a time
Your sobriety date is 3 months - keep it simple and honest
What Andy said. Three months. You weren't sober just because you stopped those other things. Why make things complicated?
That was actually a typo, it was supposed to be 23 months for alcohol. And I track all my sobriety dates. Each substance I used has it’s own date.
It’s actually 23 months. When I got clean from each substance, I count that as a step in the right direction, I track it all. Nothing complicated about it.
I got clean from Dilaudid, heroin etc in 2006. I continued to drink though because it was "normal". When I'm talking about it, I mention that, but I know that I didn't get completely clean and sober until March 19th of this year.
What I'm saying is, you only have one sober date. The day you finally stopped all nonsense.
I get that, but for me, I have 3 sober dates. For each substance I got clean from. I celebrate them all. It’s a reminder of my journey through recovery. It works for me. And from my experience as a therapist in the addictions field as well, it’s not uncommon for people to recognize more than one date of sobriety if they abused multiple substances. Everybody looks at it differently, no right or wrong way to go about it. Just like anniversaries. When two people get married, some recognize their wedding day as their anniversary and some people still recognize the day they started dating as one and their marriage date as well and celebrate them both yearly. You may have one date, and that's fine, nothing wrong with that, but I have 3 and there's nothing wrong with that either.
I agree, tacos are pretty good, but burritos are delicious. They get my vote every time.
Those aren’t sobriety dates or clean dates. They are just “stopped using this substance” dates. The date you stopped using any of those things should be your “true” sobriety date.
But also congratulations on being off anything
Everybody can look at sobriety differently. I look at mine as being sober from each individual substance I abused as a date of sobriety. Each one was a task to accomplish. And when I worked in the addictions field, many people saw it the same and some people didn’t. All that matters is what works for each individual person. I have 3 dates of sobriety. For 3 individual substances.
Thanks
Not sure if this makes sense to anything, but ok.
If this is the case, I’m celebrating 14 years without a hemorrhoid this coming Tuesday. I hope everyone can come celebrate with me
Ok, you and these others may not like how I view my personal recovery, but it’s my personal recovery, not yours. It shouldn’t matter to anybody how I view it. So I’ll see it how I see it. I know lots of people in recovery who track each date separately, so it is what it is. Do your thing and I’ll do mine. I’ve also worked in the field and see many people do it how they wanna do it and view their recovery.
If you’re going to make a public post and allow replies, you can bet that others in recovery are going to tell you the truth. If you want to do what you do, how about not posting it if it’s a controversial issue that imo makes absolutely no sense. Keep weird stuff that does not help others to yourself or between you and your sponsor?
Daniel, everyone here is really happy that you're finally sober from all the bs, I'm sure of that. But clean and sober is clean and sober.
Andy, Id like to RSVP the hemorrhoid party, me +1, thank you.
Ok, so what makes you think that what you and the other guy is saying is the “truth?” Are you experts in the field of addiction? Because I actually have a professional background in it. Recovery is a personal preference in how it is viewed and celebrated. I’m not the one making this controversial. I stated I have more than one date of sobriety for various substances, shouldn’t be an issue for anybody. It’s my recovery, not yours or anybody else’s. How is me having more than one sober date weird? And not helping others? No need for a sponsor, they also aren’t the end all cure all to recovery, but I don’t go around telling people that their method of choice in using a sponsor is ridiculous.
