Everybody can celebrate their recovery how they choose. Some people choose to recognize multiple dates for each substance as it helps them in their process. Some people pick the one day when they stopped period. There’s no right or wrong and it shouldn’t matter to anybody how I or anybody else chooses to recognize their sobriety. It’s personal preference. I recognize each one as each substance caused me different difficulty. So as I got clean from each, I recognize it. And I know others who do the same and others who don’t. I don’t tell anybody they’re wrong for how they view it.

You can be my +1 to Andy's 'rhoid party, Daniel.

Daniel. Good luck. I go to a ton of meetings and watch a lot of people. I have 75 days sober and I’m very proud of my sobriety. People that are on the 9th step at 20 days and people that have numerous sober dates still make me cringe. Thank you for helping me realize something to work on with my sponsor. I admire your time sober. It’s super important and impressive. Blah blah blah. Do it your way!!! I’m sure that you can even eventually rewrite our literature

I think I’m actually going to do this. Where’s my Los Angeles peeps?

Hey Daniel. It’s your recovery journey. There so many opinions on all of this. I appreciate you sharing your experience, strength, and hope. Not really sure why others have taken issue with your post. If I asked you how long you’ve been sober, and you replied either 678 or 403 days without mentioning anything else…I’d shake my head a little if I later found out you were still drinking. However, if you replied with all your sober dates, I don’t see any issue.

And people who think AA/NA is the end all cure all to alcoholism/addiction make me cringe. But I don’t sit here and try to tell you you’re wrong for doing it. It’s your personal choice for your personal recovery. Tons of meetings don’t make you an expert. But congrats on the 75 days. And if it makes you cringe that I see different dates for my personal recovery, again, my personal recovery, then that might be your issue. Being a smart guy to me because you don’t like how I view my recovery is quiet childish. But ya know, to each his own.

Thank you. I don’t get why it’s a big deal in how I view my personal recovery. We all may face similar issues with addiction, but recovery and everything that comes with it is individual to each of us. Shouldn’t matter to others really.

Being sober from White Castle should DEFINITELY have its own sober date.

Well, now that I think of it, I never ate there sober anyway.....

Are you looking for a medal in presenting that you have clean time? What is the reason that you created this post in the first place? Forgive me, just as a newcomer I am trying to understand why some people with time boast about their clean time. Really I have been taught that clean time has no meaning if you are not helping others, cleaning house and looking for service positions. Does this change when you get 20, 40, 60 years? Does god render you recovered and not needing to assist others or work a program at that time? I’m really just curious and do not mean to offend you or be mean. Nobody really cares that you have 3,58493 days off whatever. Have you helped a newcomer today, called any new guys, taken anyone through the steps. The duration away from all of your millions of addictions does not really matter. What matters is if you are taking another person thru the steps, which is a process that i see few people (that have worked the steps) seeking recognition for.

Congratulations on every date you celebrate. They all mean something to you which is what matters.....

Not seeking any medal or recognition. What is the reason for any post on here then? If you’re questioning mine. People post about their days, their recovery time, etc., I mean that is what this app is for. It’s not boasting about my clean time just by me sharing it. Because everybody on this app shares their sober time in one way or another. I don’t care if anybody cares about my sober time, it’s not what I share it for. You do get the concept of this app right? I mean, it’s an app where people share their experiences, sober time and difficulties. Just a couple days ago you shared your sober time. So what's different from you doing it and me? And actually, my profession is helping people overcome addiction from all substances. That's what I do for a living. So yes, I help people all the time and do not seek recognition for it. Never have sought recognition for anything, so not really sure where you're getting at with that statement. And, I've actually been helping several people on this very app in private work on their recovery. Through other means than a step program, because a step program isn't the end all cure all to addiction. I help people in many ways, with various approaches that work for them. So I actually don't really understand your comment except to try and question me and why I post. And confront me on if I help people? Basically your saying that my recovery means nothing. That's how I'm taking it. So what makes yours different than mine then, you shared your sober time a few days ago. I'm not questioning you in that. I'm not making you feel like nobody cares about your sober time. I'm not questioning you on what you're doing for others. So I don't get where you're coming from. But it's ok, I don't need to get it. I kinda don't want to get tired. I know me and that's all that matters. I disagree with your post on your gratitude sharing and how you said you're not the most important person in your life, but you don't see me breaking you down for it. Ya know, it is what it is. But I'd appreciate it if you'd stop blowing up my post with nonsense that doesn't have anything to do with recovery.

I hope you don’t misdirect anymore people on avoiding the real work that aa has successfully done for so long. I do not agree that you should be counseling or teaching anyone at the point you are at, and this is my opinion and I do not care how others feel about it

I don’t misdirect anybody. You don’t know me one bit and how I do what I do. I don’t tell people not to do AA. But AA is also not the only option for sobriety. I tell people to find what works best for them. AA might work for you, but it’s not for everybody. And if you think it is then you have no concept of what individual recovery is. And what do you mean by “at the point I am at?” What point do you think I'm at? Because I feel there's more to recovery than AA?! You have no idea who I am or what I do and know and my knowledge and experience. I am a very good therapist and have helped tons of people using a variety of methods. There is so much more that can give someone sobriety from drugs and alcohol. You must not have any idea. And you're right, it is your opinion, which in this case means absolutely nothing!! I'm not gonna sit here and let some random guy mock my views on my personal recovery, and then go and insult me in my ability to properly counsel others because you are clueless. Not gonna happen. All you speak on is opinion, and that's irrelevant here.

I’m just pulling your chains oldtimer. Go save lives

Well in that case, nobody is ever truly clean then if it has to be from all addictive substances. Because that would then include coffee, other caffeine, cigarettes, many medications, chocolate, etc. and many people in recovery use one or more of those. There is a way actually to use more than 1 date. Recovery is individual to everybody. And as a person in recovery and a licensed addictions therapist, if one of my clients comes to me and wants to have a sober date from alcohol and a sober date from heroin for example, I’m gonna accept that. Why? Because it’s their recovery and if that’s what helps them to focus on sobriety and feel good about where they are then that’s what I’m gonna do. This isn’t necessarily directed to you because you haven't done so, but nobody should come on my post and mock me for how I view my personal recovery and tell me I'm wrong, like some of the guys did earlier. There is no true right or wrong way to track sobriety. It's personal to everybody. Some people choose one main date and some choose one for each substance they break free from. Because recovery is individual to each of us. I've worked in the field for close to 10 years and have never had a problem with how I work and approach things. And I'm not gonna let a few random guys who don't seem to know much to come and tell me I'm doing my own recovery wrong basically. People shouldn't be so caught up in how I do me. If someone doesn't like it, move on. So I'd like to end this back and forth on my lair because I'm tired of getting notifications all the time about a post made a month ago. Everybody do their own thing, whatever it may be to keep you sober.

Go do it. I do stuff and keep it to myself. I don’t need the recognition

Well, now there’s your recognition now isn’t it?! Or you could be one of those guys who say stuff like that to make it sound like you do stuff. Either way, I don’t need recognition either there guy, you brought all this up cause you didn’t like a post I made about my recovery time, a post that is similar to a post you just made a few days ago about your own time. Remember that. So now, stop blowing up my post with your irrelevant comments. I’m done putting in time to go back and forth with you. You won’t win.

Andy makes a lot of good points. I DO believe that AA/NA are one of the the, if not THE best programs, as long as you check your hubris at the door. There are meetings for bible beaters, Agnostics, LGBTQLMNOP, veterans, bikers, stuffed shirts, men, women, etc etc etc a place where everyone can fit in and feel comfortable. It's peer based, and is strongly suggested helping eachother, paying it forward.
