I never said AA/NA weren’t good. All I’ve ever said was that there are several other options, and those programs aren’t the saviors of addiction. Those programs don’t work for everyone. They didn’t with fur be. People have options. As a therapist, I know there are many therapeutic options that work very well for people also. Anybody who denies that is wrong, period.

Why does it matter to anyone how he tracks his sobriety? It is something personal to each of us. Instead of telling him he’s wrong, congratulate him for making it this far and staying clean.

Daniel, I believe there are multiple ways to be in recovery. Every person's different and every path is different. Keep moving forward. The opposite of addiction is connection. You should be proud of each date you have and who gives a rats as that you have multiple!!! They are yours and you should hold on to them regardless of what anyone says or thinks. You are living in active and sustained recovery and that is all that matters.

It's not personal when it's on a public forum.

I think this was a good conversation, tbh.

I think she’s referring to our own individual recovery. It’s personal to each of us as in how we view it. Even though it’s posted here in public, it’s still each of our own recovery process and should be viewed as that. How we do it individually shouldn’t matter to others, except for the fact that we are doing it. Should be celebrated and appreciated, not ridiculed.

I don't really think anyone is ridiculing you or anyone. Bottom line is if you're not clean and sober, you're not clean and sober. Just like the "California sober" people, nope, not sober. I get what everyone is saying, but it's not really a matter of opinion, it's just how it is.

Oh yea, the one dude ridiculed and mocked me for my views on my personal recovery. It’s ok, it doesn’t bother me. But That’s how I took it. And as I went through recovery, I became sober from each individual substance at different times, so that is being sober from a substance. It's progress being made. I take them individually. Even though I still used other things, I was sober from one at a time. You or others may not agree, and view it differently, and that’s your right and your opinion, but nobody can tell me I’m wrong for how I view my personal recovery and sobriety. If there's this much focus on my individual recovery by others, then maybe these other people need to reflect on themselves and not put so much focus on me, trying to prove me wrong! Instead of trying to tell me I'm wrong, in which I'm not and nobody will ever convince me of it, maybe congratulate me for being sober. If not, then move on from my post. I have experience as a therapist in this field, I know the many ways people view their own individual recovery, so nobody is gonna tell me how to view mine. But I think I'm gonna be done going back and forth on this topic. I've made my points and I'm not gonna continue to repeat myself.

I can't believe that someone posted that they are clean from more than 1 substance- instead of that being the focus we're focusing on the choice of how many sober dates they have? So we make jokes about being sober from tacos, hemorrhoids, and White Castle? Y'all can't be serious!

I second Kay. I admire Daniel, & congratulate him on his multiple successes, both personal & professional. Recovery is possible.

Thank you to those who spoke up against the harassment and assault to Daniel from a couple of bullies on his post.

Kay, you have excellent Bystander Intervention skills. After I practice the skill of effectively setting and maintaining boundaries, I plan on taking the task to learn and practice effective Bystander Intervention techniques.
