Newly Sober

How can I cope with boredom during early sobriety?

Do you have any hobbies? I used to hate puzzles but found them very helpful while in rehab

I started experimenting with different hobbies that interested me.. I started metal detecting fishing diamond art volunteering.. etc.. because I know when I get bored my mind will hyperfocus on using/drinking so I keep busy

I started the sour dough journey! It’s time consuming and doesn’t cost much if you mess up!!

Be of service, both in and out of the program. Get commitments at meetings. Volunteer at an animal shelter. It was a lot easier for me in early recovery when I had a "purpose". Hobbies are great too. I love reading, so it was nice getting back to that. I took up Sudoku.

Go to meetings, read, try new things. Meet people after meetings for coffee, lunch. Go for walks.

Gotta fill that time up. Establish a routine. Exercise, read, watch TV that doesn't trigger you. And always remember to just do the next right thing. The best thing I think though is to make a program call to your sponsor or accountability partner. One last thought though is that sometimes we just think we're bored because we're used to drinking or whatever it was we struggled with so just replace it.

Test out things that may work for you… reading, writing, drawing (even if it’s just doodling) puzzles. Adult coloring books. Work out. Game. Diamond art. Paint by number.

Find your niche and establish a routine. Try to do things that help soothe your soul.

You’ve got this! :purple_heart:

Find things you like and enjoy to fill your time

Go volunteer it’s such a good feeling giving back
