How can I cope with boredom during early sobriety?
Do you have any hobbies? I used to hate puzzles but found them very helpful while in rehab
I started experimenting with different hobbies that interested me.. I started metal detecting fishing diamond art volunteering.. etc.. because I know when I get bored my mind will hyperfocus on using/drinking so I keep busy
I started the sour dough journey! It’s time consuming and doesn’t cost much if you mess up!!
Be of service, both in and out of the program. Get commitments at meetings. Volunteer at an animal shelter. It was a lot easier for me in early recovery when I had a "purpose". Hobbies are great too. I love reading, so it was nice getting back to that. I took up Sudoku.
Go to meetings, read, try new things. Meet people after meetings for coffee, lunch. Go for walks.
Gotta fill that time up. Establish a routine. Exercise, read, watch TV that doesn't trigger you. And always remember to just do the next right thing. The best thing I think though is to make a program call to your sponsor or accountability partner. One last thought though is that sometimes we just think we're bored because we're used to drinking or whatever it was we struggled with so just replace it.
Test out things that may work for you… reading, writing, drawing (even if it’s just doodling) puzzles. Adult coloring books. Work out. Game. Diamond art. Paint by number.
Find your niche and establish a routine. Try to do things that help soothe your soul.
You’ve got this!
Find things you like and enjoy to fill your time
Go volunteer it’s such a good feeling giving back
Walk and rediscover nature
Exercising is always good helps me
Read. Journal. Find groups to be a part of. You can do hard things.
So for me i had to find a community. They say it takes a village to raise a child right in my active addiction when I first started i found ppl they taught me what to do they showed me the robes plugged me in.. so I made that way of life my daily structure everything I did was about getting and using and finding ways and means so now that im in recovery I try to surround my life with ppl who also got what I want. I go to mtgs get a home group build a network get a sponsor work on steps for me i also go to therapy I have a gym membership and tend a class I joined a online support group I do smart goal setting i practice manifestation with a daily journal I found a book club there's a thing called sync recovery look it up its great I found time for me time where I enjoy a daily extensive hygiene regamin everything I try to do in life is in some way helping me in improving my life
Service service service. Hobby hobby hobby!!!PRAY PRAY PRAY!!! Meeting meeting meeting!!! Rest rest rest….
I had to seek outside help. My boredom turned to depression. I got help that way and am very grateful for the mental health community.
Stay busy, go to A.A., take on some hobbies.
For Me, I had to stay busy, I did Bible study, Read the Big AA book, I went to every meeting I could find, and I did community work service. Now I'm in my service work part of my recovery and it is SO rewarding when we're able to help others find their way to recovery !!! Amen

Lots of in person AA meetings helped me tremendously. 90 different meetings in 90 days was an adventure. Meeting people in recovery that were going thru similar challenges and people that had been through it. Sounds difficult but it was easier than the boredom.
I’m here if you want to talk
