On day 1 again, any tips greatly appreciated
I had to take the day off work and this anxiety is rough, but at least the nausea seems to have subsided.
I donβt know where you are on your recovery journey or what youβve tried. Iβm assuming alcohol is the problem. Youβll probably need to do more or something different/better. Have you tried AA?
Yes, alcohol for me. I've tried a couple times to stop now. I haven't tried AA yet, but am looking into it. And I scheduled a doctor's appointment to see what kind of help I can get as well.
Just want to calm any anxiety you might have about going to an AA meeting. There are always nice people that want to help you. They have been through whatever you are going through. There are no expectations of you. You can just listen if you want. Take it in and see if the stories and shares are like your own. I tried by myself and couldnβt do it. I needed help. I finally found the help I needed in AA. I hope everything works out for you. If you have any questions let me know.
Ok, thank you for the advice. It may have to be a virtual meeting if I can find one, but I'm going to do it
Is it generally acceptable to come a little late to a meeting if I needed? I don't want to be rude, but I also think it's important that I do go today
They will likely offer phone numbers - or offer to be temporary sponsors - I reached out 11 days ago and it really helped to talk to someone - my experience has been - no pressure in AA - listening to the stories? Will sound familiar and make you feel not alone. I was terrified to go to my first aa meeting, but 100% supportive, 0% judgemental. Everyone in there has been where youβre at.
It sounds very supportive and I'm looking forward to a meeting. I haven't had much support. I have talked to some of my family, but also, many of them hold a lot of anger towards alcoholics and have been very judgemental when people are struggling. Even though almost everyone in my family struggled with alcohol at some point.
I apologized once - the canned answer βyouβre never late for an AA meeting β. And βkeep coming backβ. Itβs truly a supportive group - if not , find another one. Iβve been to about 6 or seven different groups over last year - every one super supportive.
Get plugged in
The people at the meeting? Will all nod - they will all understand.
Thank you for the encouragement! I just got off my first zoom AA meeting, hopefully I can go in person soon
Thatβs the ticket. Great job. Keep it going. Will only get better the more you keep reaching out. Guaranteed. Pretty cool
Great choice
Unless the Dr is a recovering alcoholic he canβt help you. Please get to an AA meeting. PLEASE!!!!
Meetings are where the sobriety is at! And youβll meet people fighting the same battle!
Sending hugs. Hi I am back on day one as well. Thank you for sharing.
Hardest part is going to your first meeting, even after a stint at rehab or a doctorβs visit. If the group isnβt for you, try again.
You got this Dave!!!
