Pissed myself off by going to the gym

Pissed myself off by going to the gym.
Stressed from work. 3 days in to the new found me. Wanted a drink. Told myself to go to the store I’ve been wanting to go to: They are permanently closed. Went home, about stopped at the booze store. Now I’m at the gym, mad because I’m “forcing” myself to not drink annnd here I am. Blabbing about it. Yay beeping me!
Happy Wednesday y’all. :muscle:

Your thoughts are a cluster. Lol You could be like sweet I'm at the gym and I'm going to annihilate this stationary bike...lol

Sometimes we gotta do things we don’t want to do in order to get out of the funk that we’re in, or distract us long enough to let the craving pass. You’re on the right track Katie, keep going!

Thats why I prefer outdoors.

I agree! But it’s dark as heck here, rainy and windy. What the BS is that?! lol Hot though! It’s still in the 60s

60's?!? Hmmm I'm in Minnesota so thats summer for me.

yeeeaahh.. southern Wisconsin.. we have yet to see winter! Though 4 hours north they got 3 feet of snow. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

We got a foot last weekend. Now winds in excess of 65mph. Lol

You should be proud of yourself

I’m in Sconni. Weather is weird today. Kind of sounds like you’ve been white knuckling it. Have you been working a program?

Your doing awesome

“Permanently closed” sounds like the hand of God.

If it were a booze store I’d say yes! But it was a homemade local soap store. lol

Can I ask what you mean by white knuckling it? I stopped cold turkey. Yesterday it was work that stressed me out and caused the wanting part. Monday and Tuesday were great, no problem.

Winds are crazy here! And I know the Minnesota weather… lol My mom was a patient at Mayo so we were up there nearly every weekend for a good part of a year. Didn’t matter when we went, we either got stuck in rain on snow! haha

White knuckling refers to getting sober alone. It is very difficult because the isolation allows that addict brain to convince you that a drink is the cure, not the problem.

So a program of recovery is when you join a group of people who used to be like you are now, but aren’t stuck in it anymore. They used each other’s experiences to lift themselves out of the madness.

12 step programs are common but there are so many paths to sobriety and the best one is the one that works for you!! Look into AA, SMART, The Luckiest Club, Tempest, or many many others. Your alcoholic mind will do everything it can in early sobriety to convince you that “you’ve got it” and that you don’t need the help of other alcoholics. This is a much more difficult path. Recovery has nothing to do with willpower. It’s a disease, and treatment means spending time with people who have learned to let it go, and they want to teach you too.

White knuckling is when we stop drinking or drugging without any real support, program, or plan. Our plan is just to quit. I did this early in recovery. Just quit, but didn’t change anything. I would just hang on “white knuckle” it as long as I could. I would make it for months at a time, but the misery of it always had me back in a relapse. It wasn’t until I started working the steps that I had the mind change necessary to gracefully enjoy a sober life. Small things don’t spin me out and make me want to look for the relief of the bottle. I don’t “white knuckle”. The obsession is gone.

The gym is a better place to go than the bar. I’m proud of you. We can do this stay strong!! Good luck
