Please give any advice on managing anxiety at night:

Please give any advice on managing anxiety at night, especially after nightmares. I have scheduled appointments with therapists upcoming, but I have to wait a few weeks before that all begins. I don’t want to feel like this constantly anymore. It makes me want to relapse so I don’t dream anymore.

I second everything Kyle said. I really like Allie Michelle’s Yoga Nidra on YouTube, gets me in a calm state of mind before sleep and usually keeps the nightmares at bay.

I've been doing 30 to 45 minutes of cardio after work. At first everyday, then I settled in to a few days a week. I stick to a fairly strict sleep schedule. I use the blue light filter on my electronics after sundown. I'm usually pretty tired by the time I lay down. Oh yea, separate phone and tv time away from your bedroom. The bedroom just being for sleeping will trick your mind into being tired.

I use the app “Unwinding Anxiety” for those times- especially middle of night or after nightmare. I’ve been working with a therapist so I have a lot of tools I use for anxiety, but if I just had to give you a strong tool for your toolkit it would be that app.
For falling asleep trouble, “headspace” is one that can take you out. I listen to it and it
calms me.
And then the weird this I do :grimacing:I listen to this hypnosis thing on my phone … Idk man it work

Hello family. I too suffer from extreme anxiety. As many of us, I was diagnosed with a FEW mental challenges while trying to get and stay sober. Just this year I have found DTR. It's a 12 step program for us who are dually diagnosed. I'm in Georgia, cool thing is a lot of the services are on line. I also attend NAMI meetings online. This platform is for support more focused on mental health and it's side effects. Understanding my issues and sharing with other people helped me. Hearing other people and their issues, confirmed that I wasn't alone, most important, I too can have the serenity spoken about. You got this
BELIEVE AND SAY IT OUT LOUD!!!

DTR is a support network for Those of us who have substance abuse and mental health concerns. There is meeting on line 3 times a day. They have meetings in person and peer support. I absolutely 100% love it.

Isn't magnesium citrate a powerful laxative?

Not sure about that. It didn't have that affect on me. But it helps with quality of sleep. I only took it for a short time and not the full dose. The meditation is really what helped my anxiety though.

They give you liquid magnesium citrate to clean you out before a colonoscopy

Good to know

Breathing exercises really helps me. Go on you YouTube and search, Marc Devine box breathing. It really works.
