Please no judgements, anyone here in recovery from meth addiction? If so please can you tell me how you controlled your urges to get high

Meth was not my particular DOC, but it was "One of many..." . I did my detox in custody so urges there weren't an issue, but out in the real world I surrounded myself with sober/clean people. It was a fairly easy lifestyle for me to reject once I was on the other side of it. I pray that clarity comes to you as well.

Thank you and yes please keep me In your prayers

Meth wasn't my DOC but I def enjoyed it many times. You have to remember that the drugs is only a symptom and the real problem is deep down in us. Behavior, mental, spiritual, physical. We are at a handicap compared to others without a problem because we stopped growing in most of these areas when we started using. There should be no judgement at all from anyone here, no matter the DOC because of this reason. One thing that works for me that my therapist passed on to me is is to write out a list of things that could happen and what I could lose if I chose to pick up. Every time I have an urge I read that list. It begins to create new nuero pathways in our brain to think of the consequences rather than the reward of getting high pr drinking. It has worked for me so well that I don't even need the list anymore and it automatically pops into my head. I have just over a year sober from pretty much everything under the sun but my DOC is opiates and crack. I'll be praying for you :pray:t3:

I’m 134 days clean from meth, (which was my drug of choice) and anything else i could get my hands on. I was completely lost in addiction and could not stop using until i went to rehab. The absolute best thing that I did once i left rehab was find a sponsor and start working a program. It has helped guide me through the process of creating new ways of thinking and feeling. Today, i respond to the world differently and i feel like a different person. The mental anguish i endured for most of my life is gone because i choose to do the work every single day. Recovery happens when you are doing the work. I hope this helps :slightly_smiling_face:

Every response is proof to me that recovery is possible and that I am worthy of it❤️

I’ve been clean off meth since 9/2005. I completely removed all people who I used with or could get dope from. I started working out and developed a love for running plus blasting music while running is intoxicating.

Being around people I looked up to or aspired to be like and who’d never touch meth helped me out.

Then I eventually found the 12 steps and worked on recovering.

I’ve been clean off meth since Dec 5 2019 and the way I killed my urges was to cut all ties with everyone that was using and deleted all my connections phone numbers , stayed to myself and actually wanted to stay away from meth , some people need N.A and programs , I did it because I was tired and didn’t like the person I became . You gotta put your mind to it and really want to stop getting high , hit rock bottom, but one day at a time

Hello there... my drug of choice was heroin and meth mixed together, so no judgement here lol.
So the shitty part, for me at least, is that you never really WANT to stop getting high. In a perfect world, we could all just be high 24/7 with zero consequences... unfortunately this isn't a perfect world.
You have to make the decision to leave that feeling in the past. And the more time that goes by, the less you think about it.
You just have to decide that a better life is worth more than the feeling that drugs give you.
It gets better!

Hey man. There with ya here for meth. Only been like a week sober but what’s helped me so far is IOP and if I get a craving that’s too strong I just shut my eyes and try to sleep. So far that’s been helping me out. But ya gotta get external help it’s fuckin difficult cuttin this habit on ur own. Not saying it’s not possible.

I never used meth but I know folks that did and I know it’s a tough one to kick but they are proof it’s doable. I will keep you in my prayers :pray:t2::pray:t2:

Addiction and early sobriety is like trying to build a house without a hammer. You need as many tools as possible as sometimes one thing will work better than others. There are days a run sounds good, others that reading, or talking. Try to build some sort of sober network and support system. Be open to options and different levels of treatment.

One tool that could work is naltrexone. I'm a drunk and it worked wonders for my cravings while I focused on recovery. It's also used for opioids and I believe can be used for meth too. It's a drug, either shot or oral. You would want some type of talk therapy to go along with it's but it can definitely add a tool for your house.

Reaching out is half the battle you are doing an awesome job :heartpulse: stay out of your head as best you can and we are doing this together. There is power in that. When you're head burns that's when I would pray to God to humble myself surrendering that disease

I have a friend that wrote a book giving his story of deep meth addiction and how he found recovery, it’s called “ Fire and ice, the meth bible” it is full of raw drug use though it could be triggering Fwi. He’s several years clean and has dedicated to helping others get off what he calls the devils drug.

Meth is my doc . I did it for almost half my life . The last 3 yrs I was a iv user . That stuff was so so hard to get off of . I get it . Believe me I get it . The urges will ease with time . It does get easier . You just gotta trust the process . Find something to do to occupy your time . I stayed busy to fill the void for a while . Meetings are a big help . Do you have a sponsor ? .

Its kinda intimidating getting one ,but when you do it will help . Think back before meth . What made you happy ? What did you like doing ? see that stuff consumes happiness. It's steals all the joy from everything you liked doing . I'm asking you to ask yourself these questions because it helped me.once I remembered I started taking time out my day to do these things.its really hard to break that spell but it's possible . this is what helped me over come the urges . Its hard really hard . But I believe you can do it

Thank you I’m in. Day three and struggling

I had to move STATE to get away from the people ,places ,and things . I have to change everything . I went to detox because I could not do it on my own . My first few weeks were very hard . In the first few weeks you get those feelings and emotions back which makes you wanna jump out your skin!! (well for me ). And I cried a lot.i cried cuz I was sad ,I cried when I was mad ,I cried cuz I was sober and didn't know how to handle it . Shii, now I just CRY . But it's okay . They say if we ain't feeling ,we ain't heelin . Its all part of the process . Emotions and feelings are all jacked up out of check all that .but it will get better ! Don't give up
