Recently sober on day 3 after the last and final

Recently sober on day 3 after the last and final binge. woke up with insane anxiety not knowing what the heck just happened, how many relationships I messed up, how much money was spent… and it goes on. Question I have is how much better is life for everyone being sober!? LEAVE A COMMENT letting me know what’s changed? Im over this shot like I’m tired of being tired of working full time at an actual job and having this addiction as my second full time job! Shoot me some hope people. I need it to stay afloat.

It’s better than you can ever imagine. It doesn’t happen overnight, though. Just like our disease got progressively worse, sobriety gets progressively better. It takes time, patience, and most of all work. What’s changed? Everything.

Love it man. So true I am coming to the acceptance of situation and where I’m at. Do you feel proactive? Like you’re doing things you never thought you would before

Oh man. It’s unbelievable. In a couple months I will be taking my level three Krav Maga test (4 hour test). There is no way in he11 I could train in Krav and drink. I started martial arts when I got sober. Love it. Crushing it at work. Money in my bank account. Involved in church. Relationships are on good. Stayed heavy in the AA program. 3 meetings per week now. Manage one and treasurer for another.

Meetings are important, especially early on. In my first two years I went to over 500. Gave me a big jump start in my recovery and kept me sober.

Dang man. That’s awesome seriously. I’m pumped man. I have the rest of the week off so planning to hit meetings everyday especially at night. That’s when I usually drink. Also got a therapist set in place to work with. So that’s a big step for me especially being so new. Think it will help. I’m nervous about AA because I would go and quit so nervous of what others will think of me. But I gotta do it. I’m already feeling better man. And it’s been three days off a serious binger.

One question I do have is we’re you kinda awkward around ppl or felt uncomfortable doing things at first? I feel that way! .

Andrew, I’m only shy of 3 months and I can tell you Shawn is right. Everything gets better. What helped me was knowing what was happening in my body & brain. I wrote it down. I knew it took about 10 days for alcohol to get out of my system, check. I knew I’d see another improvement about 30 days in, check. My sleep was better just 5 days in. My skin looked better 2 weeks in. These milestones were so encouraging. Watching the transformation in my face & body and having a calmer approach to most challenges. Man! Game changer. I don’t remember the last time I felt this good and had this much energy. As Shawn said, it takes time but you will see & feel it. It’s real. Give your brain & body time to heal and it will. It wants to. Welcome! :green_heart:

Awkward? Tell them you don’t drink. Period. It’ll take so much pressure off you - if decent people, they won’t give two s### if your drinking alcohol.

That’s everyone at first. You don’t have to participate any more than you are comfortable. Just get yourself there man. Trust me. Little by little you will feel more comfortable. Next thing you know, you have a bunch of really cool new friends and meetings become something you look forward to. Try a bunch of different meetings too. Now when I travel, I hit meetings in different cities as an adventure. Crazy how people in the program treat you like they’ve known you forever. I am really pumped for you!

Welcome, Andrew!
The darkness of anxiety and depression fades away and u can finally see life in a positive way. Your body feels so much better, good sleep, energy, more time to do things u love, productivity at work. Prayer, meditation and yoga are really helpful too. I don’t feel stuck anymore. It’s very liberating! You can do things u never thought possible. At almost 50, Im training for my first full marathon in June.

I was sober for 3 years and just recently relapsed. I had a successful job car relationship then I lost it all in a month. But today I have 45 days the support from my family is amazing. I’ve started a step study so I can learn more ways how to cope with urges. I’ve started working out, cooking more, and just getting to know myself again. Sobriety is beautiful and I’m just now starting to see it again. If you need anyone to talk to I’m here(:

Thank you so much fir that encouragement! I read these and it just amps me up to stay focused. I can only imagine what I’d be doing here in 1 months. Or 2 weeks I’ve always been a productive alcoholic! At least I thought I was, But man I can only imagine how much Id crush it in all areas of my life, financially, relationships, friends, work, and all the above. Thank you so much you all for inspiring me to keep it going! Im on day 3!!! And my body hurts still shaking a little but focused and praying to my higher power for help.

Just hit 5 months. It's amazing.

Congratulations Andrew on your three days with blessings and hope for many more to come. I too was a functional alcoholic. I trudged through my days to get into my nights of drinking. I have had so many failed relationships too. In 2016 I finally went into outpatient, got therapy, started pulling myself out of the financial mess I had gotten myself into, and became determined. I started dating me, focused on my career with a mind that was not cloudy and make over 21k more then I did prior, own my own home, just bought a new jeep, and surround my self with the unconditional love of three rescue dogs. I have though….found myself binging on occasion and it’s normally when I have tried to date. Alcohol is everywhere and everyone drinks socially and that is where the awkwardness comes in for me. So after a big family gathering, and lots of wine this Christmas I woke up with a bad hangover. I looked around at every thing I have accomplished for myself and really asked if killing myself with poison is worth risking everything I have done for myself in 6 years. It’s jut not. So…..I am back in the wagon, grateful to have a remote job I love, which allows me to take care of my rescues, that I love, I have no more panic attacks, racing heart, pounding headaches ect… I can not begin to explain how great your life will be without it. If your strong enough to quit it for good, your strong enough to accomplish anything in your life you want to do for yourself. Trust that!! It’s rough at first but you will get there my friend. Best of luck to you and best of wishes for your new sober life!!
