Relapsed…

So, I relapsed, after over a year sober. I don’t even know why… family and friends want answers and I have none. All I have is guilt and shame for going back.

Hi Giselle! I’m know that feeling all too well. My family wanted to know how and why too. We have an illness that they will never understand. Only another alcoholic/addict can relate to the shame and guilt of our own self destructive and repetitive behaviors. My answer to many of their questions was always “idk”. Once you accept the fact that you have the disease of alcoholism, you can begin the recovery process. Stop beating yourself up. You are not alone. You’re back. Take some action by getter by involved in a recovery program, whether it’s a 12 step program, or some other daily support program. You can do it. There is a solution

Hi there,
Forgive yourself. May I suggest that you find out what caused you to relapse? That's what you ought to focus on. Be honest with yourself.
All the best.

It’s good you let it out now forget about it and start fresh and be strong

Forgive yourself. You are only human. Be strong again

Don’t be too hard on yourself. You slipped up. It happened. You know how to get back on track :muscle:t2:

Hardest question I couldn’t answer after a relapse was

“What is different this time?”

This time it is different for me. I suggest to work a stronger program.

For those of us there is no explanation necessary. For all others there is no explanation possible. Just get back to it. It was better that you were sober for that year than not. Did you learn something from it? Welcome back.

Your honesty is appreciated to yourself and others (Me)! You got this.

Yep! You can't beat yourself up!! That'll get you loaded faster then anything! If you can't forgive yourself right now, at least lean on those around you and let them love on you until you can! Welcome back!:white_heart:

I’m glad that you are here. I was a chronic relapser forever. I eventually realized that guilt and shame are weapons of my diseased thinking. Just more lies that I tell myself.

I used to always want to figure out why too. There is no why. I find that acceptance works for me. Though, my thoughts allow me to struggle with acceptance at times, i seem to think a situation out when tempted and circle back to the fact that my body, mind, and spirit do not "take well" to my "DOC." Life is too good with out it and if i pick up, i know, there is no denying the fact that it will NOT be good. Truthfully( to myself). It is better to just move forward with my daily mission. Life is more amusing without the fog.

It’s going to be okay. Keep posting on here. The answers will come.

Welcome back

Giselle you will always be welcome here. I've been there. I think inside you know why, I always did but would simply say I just did. Don't be ashamed. Figure it out, learn from it. Fix it and start again. You can do this. Reach out anytime best of luck

Today is a new day! You did a whole year! That's awesome. It's just time beat your record. Let's try again.

You have to get back up and start over . You have to realized recovery is a journey. One step at a time

Learn and fresh start will make y ou stronger person.

Take one day at a time. If you have craving call family and friend.

When I relapsed, it was because I’m an alcoholic no other reason for me. You will be fine just keep moving forward and don’t beat yourself up.
