Scared of Withdrawal

I feel ya. Let go. Check in to treatment. They’ll help you detox. You’ll get your life back, if you really want it.

I have gone through withdrawals so many times I’ve lost count. Detox is best, but you can also go to the ER and they will get your withdrawals under control and usually send you home with medication such as Librium or Ativan, etc. I’ve tried weening myself off in the past several times. Only worked once and then 2 weeks later I was drinking again. I agree with all the other comments that treatment is best though. I also used work as an excuse for a very long time, but finally gave it a shot and I stayed sober almost 6 months. The truth is there’s no easy answer, you just need to do what your heart tells you. I wish you the best of luck!

Detox will help! It will also put a wall between you and the drink for a few days while you're feeling delicate. Please check in! Detox from alcohol can be dangerous and is not worth the mysery if you can avoid it!

I couldn’t ween myself off alcohol any easier than I could ween myself off cancer

Can you take a 5 to 7 day vacation?

You have 8 shots a day, start cutting back slowly... Drink tea and lots of water.

Look into an anxiety medication, either natural or prescription as a substitute. Natural might be better since you have to be completely sober for prescription anxiety meds.

Yes I could try that… is that long enough to start a detox and monitor withdrawal? If so, I can arrange that!!!!! :pray:t3:

Thank you Mo… did you have success cutting back this way?

It will be long enough to safely withdraw. I'd recommend staying in a program for longer to put a wall up between you and the temptation for a while, but yes.

I've seen people work remotely while in detox. Ask the facility. Maybe you can check emails etc., a few times a day to make sure the ship isn't sinking?

THANK YOU!! You give me so much hope. :pray:t3:

Hope is the name of the game when it comes to this disease. I'll say a prayer for you. Just promise that you'll help someone else once you get better!

Hey Jill! I very highly suggest doing a week in a detox program to be safe. Delirium Tremens is a very real and dangerous thing, especially if drinking daily for several years. In detox, they will not only make sure that you are medicated to help make the withdrawals as manageable as possible, but they can also give you a list of resources for next steps once you get out (meetings, contacts, other health options, etc.)

Please please be super careful trying to detox yourself (it is not medically recommended at all). Sorry for being a buzz kill, but your health and the awesome life you WILL have right ahead of you aren’t worth putting at risk by accidentally making yourself very sick and/or much, much more anxious while your body heals itself.

Thank you Jeremy… I agree. I think this is why I’ve been having my panic attacks. I’d feel so much better doing this while under care of medical professionals. Thank you :pray:t3:

Teddy thank you… I’ve never heard of HAMS but will research it now while I also work to find other options to assist me (therapy, outpatient, etc.) I promise I’ll do this safely. I’m just so encouraged and uplifted receiving all of these amazing insights from people who have gone through this before… I’ve been so terrified and felt so alone in this, until today.

I went through it earlier this year. I wanted to do detox with medical supervision, but couldn’t find a place that would do it without placing me in a locked ward. I did take about a month off work & stayed at a friends while I tapered off the booze. I’d definitely recommend doing it under a doctor’s care if possible, but it is doable! I’m rooting for you!

At this point in time it would be safer for you to medically detox. Not safe to do on your own. Business is a cop out I am sure your family can work out something so you can get help unless they don’t care if you die from alcoholism. Sorry not sugarcoating this situation. I have witnessed death first hand from drinking. 100 lbs drinking that much, you are killing yourself daily. I pray you reach out to your family before it’s too late. Believe me, they don’t want to see you die like I saw my brother die, the color of a lemon with no liver function. Stop excuse and get help.:pray::pray:

You are off to a great start! Be honest and knowing there is a problem in the first place!
Sometimes it’s being able to talk and share what it is that’s stressing you out. Knowing you aren’t alone! We all have your back!
