So I was asked to go to a concert with some friends. I want to go but think it might be too soon. They all drink and if I’m being honest I think they will just annoy me now that I’m sober.
I was just thinking how nice it is to have someplace like Loosid to get some feedback on every day real life situations. Great that you are taking advantage of this tool! Regardless of what you ultimately do, good job by you
. Now for my .02, considering you are in early sobriety, and will be the only one not drinking…I suggest you pass on this one. It’s just one person’s opinion. I don’t think it’s fun to be the only one not drinking. I have a hard enough time feeling part of. Hope you can find some sober friends to enjoy these type of events in the future

Yeah I think your right
I live in Savannah. I might actually be the only sober person here.
. It may seem like that, but I’m sure there are many of “us” out there. The best place to meet others is thru meetings. I’ve met a lot of friends the past 9 months. Truly has been a life changer. There are a few recovery programs that have meetings. Maybe you can find a little support group?
How do you find meeting near yourself?
I could use a sober friend
Go to AA’s website. They have a meeting guide. Just login and look for the guide. Type in your zip, and it will show you all the options. I’m sure NA has the same thing. I’m not as familiar with the other programs, but there’s SMART recovery, The Phoenix, and several others. Hopefully some others will chime in with suggestions
I was once in your situation. I have a campsite, and EVERYONE drinks there. I thought I would be annoyed as the only sober one. Turns out I am not in the least. Just because you are sober does t mean you can not go have fun. You should give yourself permission to do just that LIVE! Leave yourself an escape, drive yourself or make sure you can leave if you feel pressure or triggered, but don’t just stop having fun. As far as finding meetings the apps “meeting guide” or “in the rooms” are both very good resources. Good luck! You can do this!
You have to be aware of where your mind is at. Yes drunk people around is very trying, if you do decide to go find a sober friend to go too! If you know for sure it will be too much politely decline, there is always another time when you think you are ready!
I haven’t had much desire to drink but I have also been cooking at home and not going out and been staying really busy. It’s weird how much time you have when you are not sitting in a bar or meeting people after work for a drink. I have always complained about how little free time I have well I’ve just been wasting it! I know I have to go back out and be apart of the world but not sure I’m ready. I have never been pushed or talked into doing anything I don’t want to do. It’s all been my own poor decisions! I am really starting to like this new life style and don’t want to mess it up!
Thank you! I really appreciate all your guidance. I will let you know if I find any other sober in Savannah!
Lol I grew up in Savannah. I think there’s just you and like seven other sober people there
Haha
I just need to find the other 7!
Would be fun to hang with your friends at first when they are somewhat sober and then if you would be able to zone out on the music and the band and enjoy yourself I’d say go - no better therapy than a live music event
I love live music but I think they might have a somewhat sober window of about 30 minutes!
I’m an Old DeadHead and saw shows all over the country. There’s a group of sober fans called wharf rats (after a song) and they hang out at shows and have little meetings during intermission. Googleing them one day I found a number of other bands that had small sober fan groups.
That’s how it was for me when I first got sober. And old drinking buddy reached out and invited me to a bar for her birthday. Unfortunately I had to turn it down and I explained why. Sadly, she didn’t understand and we haven’t spoken since. Weirdly enough, at that point in time I was able to weed out who was truly there for me and my journey and who was not.
