I totally understand, I don’t want to be sober anymore and I’ve been feeling like this for weeks… that’s why I got the app and am looking for meetings. Just one day at a time … push it off
Turn off the negative and strive for the positive. It’s everywhere if you look.
Why are you miserable? The reasons you drank are so there once you get sober, so take the time to do some honest self exploration w/o getting down on yourself. There are other programs like smart recovery or refuge recovery for meeting, if AA is not your thing. It's easy to look back with rose colored glasses, but I'm sure you got sober for a reason, even if you're not seeing it clearly at the moment.
I recommend reading Annie grace's book, This Naked Mind, or William Porter, or Jason Vale. They help you to see it for what it is and not miss it, there's nothing to miss. At the very least, there's little to miss and it's not worth it. Annie Grace audio has many YouTube videos that are helpful too. Good luck.
Justin,
Welcome to sobriety, welcome to Loosid. When I got sober for the 4th time in my drinking career I had hit rock bottom. I was more miserable drunk and or using. After the first 47 days of sobriety I became even more miserable. I had so much turmoil going on, with housing, separation, custody battle and not to mention mental health problems that I had to go to in patient treatment facility. I totally understand what you’re going through. Even though I was miserable I knew I couldn’t go back. I wanted my stuff back. My son, my house, and my life. So I was determined to stay sober. This time in treatment I really put my heart into learning about alcoholism and why I did what I did. I did every program out there, recovery dharma, refuge recovery, AA, NA, life ring and even looked at smart recovery. They all played a role in my sobriety. AA had been the one that has made the most success, but I still go to refuge recovery as I enjoy the meditation and group discussion after reading the book.
AA’s 12 steps have removed the urges to drink or use, they have given me a life I could not have dreamed of, and friends I would have never thought of being friends with. I’m kind, loving and compassionate about my life today. It’s not about me anymore. It’s about how can I be of service to society? How can I help the next person?
Our emotions will come and go. We don’t have to respond or react to them. Lean in! Feel them. Then share them right here in this app.
Hope you made it through the night.
Thank you
Ya the that the thing.
I get sober for 6 months and expect a decade of wreckage to be forgiven totally unreasonable but I say what about their part and then it’s east to be “off to the races” sometimes we just ride it out. I keep myself in the right places doing the right things,
Welcome
thank you
Step 4 and 5 help you deal with resentments and fear. You can see defects in the way you think and the hang ups you have. Steps 8 and 9 help you deal with your wreckage, so that you can “start” to get past your past. The answer is in the steps. Get to meetings, get a sponsor, work the steps.
Man I’m telling ya I get that. The thing is that sometimes I don’t want it. I mean Nothing I don’t want to drink I don’t want this new fabulous life I just don’t want anything. An there is just no star I can pray to higher power that can change my mind.
But the desk is that I know if I just ride out those feelings for a little bit that by keeping myself in the right places doing the correct things but not fighting it I’ll be ok.
I feel it just a rewiring or some part of the healing process an wonder if anyone else can relate.
Love ya your on the right track
Another good book is, drop the rock, it focuses on steps 6 and 7
Some days are just like that. I get it. Much love man. Keep your head up. Maybe try to find someone to help, even with something little.
Justin if you are miserable, then your not working a program of any kind. It's okay though... isn't it? After all you get to go back to destroying not only your life , but those around you. That's going to get rid of your misery for sure . And when you find that your even more miserable..more destructive to not only your life but others. There are only two ways to get rid of your misery. Stay drunk , or stay sober. If you choose to stay sober and work a program , and surround yourself with like-minded people , I promise that misery will go away. Praying for you and others.
Stay strong.
Ya it’s easy for some to live in black an white but my reality is something a little less easily defined.
I appreciate the sentiment and definitely solid healthy minded intent of your comment.
Things don't have to be that complicated. Make it easy on yourself
Not about being complicated
Just sometimes my brain like a an analysis of needs and determines there aren’t any so go head and shut the office.
Early sobriety can be a miserable time. You are having a tin of feelings that you ised to numb and are being forced to actually process them. That is one of the many reasons recovery programs focus on self improvement as well as sobriety. Keep going you can do it.
This is the one. Thank you very much.
Remembering that even if we can’t see anyone we’re not alone in that place.
Tomorrow might be a better day you never know.
Faith and steadfastly holding on to what is right.
One of my favorite lines is “no one said it was gonna be easy just that it’s worth it.
Somehow someway it will work out it may not look like what we think it should or happen how we think it should but we keep on keeping on because it’s the right thing to do in this probationary state.
Living this life just for me is selfish that’s where we talk about getting out of self and realizing that our purpose here is to work, forgive an help Others.
