I have been a cigarette smoker for to long, and I am interested in tips to help me quit for good. I quit for 2 1/2 weeks a few months ago. I used the lozenges, and nicotine patches. I hated having the strong taste of lozenges 24/7 plus they gave me terrible heart burn and a general feeling of unwellness. With the nicotine patch i had a terrible rash from the adhesive, plus dizziness and the most vivid terrible nightmare… I anout had it after all of the side effects and I went back to cigarettes. If anyone has successfully quit please let me know! Cold turkey isnt an option at the moment as I experience panic attacks and extreme irritation quitting without the use of an aid.
My dad was a 3 pack a day smoker. After a bad dr visit he was scared into quitting. That was 20 years ago. If he can do it…. So can you! Mind over matter.
I just went from 2 packs a cigarette a day to 1-2 cigarettes a day within the past 3 weeks. I use a 14mg patch and supplement it with 6 mg nicotine pouches as needed for the “I need a cigarette.”
I realize at 54 nothing good is going to come from smoking cigarettes and that it’s the nicotine addiction that causes me to smoke
I prayed to God and asked him to remove the craving and help me quit smoking.
And I will tell you what it helped I quit and of course I have stressful days that's a given but I don't crave them like any other time I have quit
I went from smoking, to vaping, to gum/lozenges. I was having trouble tapering off the gum/lozenges. My doctor put me on Chantix and that really helped. I've been nicotine free for about a year, and off Chantix for 8 months or so.
Zonic! Nicotine pouches helped me and I haven’t smoked since.
That’s great! Congrats to your dad!!
I was a 2-3 pack a day smoker as well for years. Occasionally 3 1/2 packs.
I’m down to 1 pack- pack and a half recently which is a huge win for me considering I cut my habit in half… It always seems to escalate over time though.
Wow that is really great!
I found that the hand to mouth repetitive movement is a trigger for me.
When I’ve quit in the past I found myself always touch my face lol:sweat_smile: Or I went back to nail biting
I might have to give this a try! Glad it worked for you👍🏼
I’ll have to look into chantix, that was my next thought to try… I vaped for 3 years, for some reason it really affected my mental health.
I slept with my vape, vaped wherever I went indoors outdoors lol!!! I have a hard time “moderating” in a lot of aspects.
Congrats on being nicotine free! I know it was so freeing those 2 1/2 weeks… Even with the cravings it was worth it for me!
You are so right! I try to bring everything to God first… I’m newer in my following with Christ, but I do keep this in the forefront of my mind and in my heart, and I try to make this a practice.
I’ve been delivered of mental illnesses, if not all of them, and physical ailments, all in Jesus name!🫶🏽✝️
Nicotine is the only substance I am struggling with. I don’t get out of the house to often so I find myself smoking a lot of the time out of boredom…. I believe if I had a routine that got me out into the community it would not be as hard on me.
That is really great your cravings have subsided. I struggle the most with cravings and irritability. I get super moody lol
Congrats to you for quitting, it really is hard to kick.
I smoked for 25 years. I used Chantix. I quit almost 9 years ago
This will probably be an unpopular post, but I have accepted that for today the benefits of smoking outweigh the cons.
I only smoke outdoors and when I work, I work remotely. So having a smoke means I step outside and enjoy nature for a little while which has benefits. I also get off my desk and walk about for a while as I smoke.
I tried quitting a few times. I did not like how I started reacting after 8+ hours without nicotine.
Sometimes when I am around a lot of people, smoking allows me to recharge. To think things through and come back more serene.
I have cut down a lot on how much I smoke. I did this with breath work. I found what worked best for me was listening to a 5 minute guided meditation.
The way I change how I breathe when smoking may be what keeps me hooked on it.
There are many substitutes available and many ways I tried. But today I am okay being a smoker that is sober free of pot and bets.
It brings me peace and serenity.
I quit last year for 5 months after a breakup, a niece that was killed in horrible car accident and my dog died. Then that was the excuse to start smoking again. For the last 4 months. I used Zyban and live near Toronto Ontario Canada and the other name is Wellbutrin. But do not know the name of the drug in the states. But have found it helpful. The nicotine stays in your system for 5 days. If you use a patch or anything then you will just keep having withdrawals. Good luck and keep trying as I will.
I quit smoking cigarettes, it's been 5 days so far, for me I keep busy, watch tv,play on my phone, take walks, unfortunately I eat more,I wish you the best of luck! If you need someone to talk to you can message me
