Today is day 1 for me. Im a repeat offender

Today is day 1 for me. Im a repeat offender. I can link together weeks and even months, but never years. I dont drink for pleasure or escape any more, its just trying to survive the day…and the irony? Im not surviving im barely getting by physically and emotionally. I want to get off this roller coaster once and for all. Im grateful for groups like this who have a mutual understanding of the difficulties and a mutual desire for change.

The roller coaster is brutal. Something that helps me is a speech by Admiral William McRaven - One person can change the world: The power of hope. the “Make your bed”
portion of it hit. Its amazing how the little things make a huge impact.
Hope it helps, keep your head up.

Do you have a sponsor? Anytime in sobriety did you work the 12 steps. An do you have a home group?

Ann, I feel you. Same here basically. What I am going to do is stay present, and make one small right choice at a time. This will work. But I've had a hard time getting started lately. That's my real obstacle, how have you overcome it?

Someone here has figured it out. @taylor184341 what really got you started?

I'm roughly 1400 days sober. This is the longest I've ever been sober. I'm 39, and started sober living at 23. My advice to you....start living sober just for today. From wake up to bed time. Rinse and repeat daily. Don't worry about long term goals right now, worry about today, and today, and today (not tomorrow because tomorrow doesn't come)

Oh the millions of times I have done the same thing…. What I learned was when I picked up the drink again was telling me I still haven’t fizzed the underlying issue within myself. The I realize I had to quit telling myself that I quit FOREVER… all I do is say I am a non drinker for TODAY and just get through today.

You sounds a lot like me. I have been doing that dance for 10 years. I was a high bottom, with limited consequences until the past 2 years, it's been so much loss and my life basically burned to the ground.

I have around 2 weeks right now. I really feel done this time. The last time I drank I woke up just disgusted with alcohol, and the desire was totally lifted in a way it's never been before. I believe this is Gods hand because somehow it feels different than every other time I have quit

Love this. Thanks for sharing.

Good suggestion, thank you.

Thank you !

I definitely haven’t figured much out. I know I have an incredibly strong desire to be sober. I really hope this time is my time.

Ann, I have been there before. I found when I got a sponser and worked the steps with her, got a home group and went to that meeting all the time, got a service position and did sobriety for just today, and when Iwas struggling and when I was doing really good I reached out to other women in recovery I was able to put a few days back to back. I believe in you. You are worth this.

I can relate. In my experience though, I hadn’t truly made the decision to quit in the past. I have committed to it now and it has made this go around easier thus far. You got this! Hang in there.

Thanks for trusting us with this, Ann! If others can, so can you! If you're in a cycle, you already know what's not working. Let's figure out what you can do now that's different.

If you don't mind, share the resources you utilized to help you before. Then, we can compare/contrast against other resources to help you.

I believe in you, Ann, and I am excited for the day when you're celebrating 5 years. Let's get you there!
