Unpopular opinion. Weed use in recovery for anxiety or other issues.. Of course not being weed is a trigger or what they were addicted too. All options welcomed! No judgment please
I guess smoking some pot is better then smoking some crack… but if you use weed then you’re not sober, and if you’re not sober then you’re not in recovery
Ok great metaphor there
Idk really but we all have our DOC. For me it's alcohol. Weed doesn't have the same effects on me but that is a slippery slope
I've come and understand that when it comes to marijuana and such things or other people who are in recovery for certain things but drink, it's their program let them work their program. It's their recovery not yours. If it causes them to go back out then they need to take another look at it, but if they manage to maintain just fine and they work a good program of recovery it's not for any of us to judge. Not everyone has problems with everything out there. The sober point is valid but it does not mean that they are not in recovery.
Seems like a very bad idea. I’ve not done the experiment and will not be. I had a friend from treatment that thought he could play that angle. Smoke some weed when he needed to numb things and get loose. I told him that I thought it was a bad idea. He couldn’t figure out why he kept slipping. He’s dead now. Died in the spring. Alcohol shut all his shii down. I could go on and on about why I don’t think you can work a program on any mind altering substances. Not one of the reasons involves getting credit for sober time or not.
Hey Cheyna! Appreciate the topic being brought up. I’ve seen this debated over many times over the years. As much as I try to stay open minded about it, I can’t because smoking weed was my original DOC, and when I relapsed after 20 plus years it once again was my go to DOC. My dream would to be able to smoke weed without consequences. Is that possible? For me it isn’t. I’ve proved that over and over again. It’s not just the getting high that’s a problem, it’s that F it attitude that comes along with it for me. I slowly stop doing things I should be doing and my life starts to unravel. Plus, I build such a tolerance that I need to smoke so much just to get close where I want to be (escape).
However, your question was if you are “not addicted to it and it’s not a trigger”. Idk
. My 2 cents is that if you are using it to escape and not deal with your emotions, it’s not a good thing. If you are an occasional pot smoker that’s one thing, but if you are a daily pot smoker, I believe it’s doing you more harm than good. Maybe I’m just jealous that I can’t do it, so I don’t like others doing it lol. It’s a tough question Cheyna. Wouldn’t it be nice if we didn’t feel it enhanced our lives? Wouldn’t it be nice to feel so good without it? I got to admit I do miss it at times. However, my life is so much better now that I’ve quit. Sorry that I rambled on and probably made no sense and offered no help. Whatever you decide, no judgements here and I wish you the best with your decision and your recovery

Depending on an addict’s severity of addiction and doc, it could be considered a form of harm reduction and be used for a short period of time. I’ve seen others utilize marijuana to treat symptoms of withdrawal and to numb out negative feelings for them to only arise later. What I do know is despite to what others may say, it is addicting, it will open gates to other drugs and the withdrawal is horrible for those that use is regularly.
That's a matter of opinion
If you research marijuana and it's medicinal properties, it's medicine. Do some research.
Hi Mandy! I’m not sure if you have access to the DSM-5, it’s a manual that’s used in clinical practice for diagnosing disorders that are substance induced or withdrawal from substance related. It’s referred to by anyone working with and treating those in recovery. Anyway, I have done research on this and it is something that is beneficial for those with chronic pain, part of a treatment plan for cancer patients, and those with chronic decreased appetite related to medications given for cancer for example. Chronic use of marijuana has a list of disorders that pop up as a result of withdrawal. It’s awful. I’ve seen it in my practice. Not everyone may go through like you may be trying to say, but if used frequently and long term, it will.
Smoking a cigarette used to calm me down. I am recovering from those as well, smoked them for 20 years. When I had the ah ha moment 3 months ago that alcohol was killing me and leading to meth, marijuana, shots shots shots! I actually feel as if I picked up another cigarette I would feel as though my recovery was at stake. 3 months drug/alcohol free. 1 month no cigarettes. The weed topic. I guess it's how you truly feel about it. If you do it, is it making you more confident in your recovery or is it diminishing your progress.? The answer is ultimately your own.
It's kept me sober
recommended by my dear brothers and sisters in AA. It's definitely a medicinal plant. Weed never made me do anything negative. All positive and healing.
Due to my personal experience with smoking weed, I agree with your reply.
Ahhhh, I’m not touching this one.
Why not use CBD? Sobriety does not entail any mind altering substance. Using pot gets you high. CBD doesn't but still gives you those calming properties with out the THC. Also another unpopular topic but I don't see the difference between anti-anxiety meds and CBD.
Smartest answer yet
Agree with you buddy! It’s just the last line I personally feel slightly different about. I don’t care what others claim. If it’s working for them, I let them be. Its not a competition. We don’t get grades like we are in school. Am I jealous AF that I can’t do it that way? You bet your sweet a$$ I am
Sorry for ur lost
Thank you for your opinion! Really gave me insight on weed being somebody’s DOC . I never thought somebody could be.. no judge ment my DOC was alcohol . Thank you again
