Unpopular opinion

I know a few people active in the program who wouldn’t be without MJ. That doesn’t mean it should be seen as an alternative. If you are healthy and maintaining and feel your life is manageable than it’s your recovery.

Love this opinion personally, but I guess it’s different for everyone

Hmm might try that

I’m not judging anyones recovery. Just be careful. We aren’t trying on pants here. One relapse can lead to death for us. Taking chances with your recovery doesn’t seem worth the risk. All to give your addiction exactly what it so desires- a high. Please be careful.

Yeah really it depends on the individual person if it's a trigger or not. prescription barbs & benzos potentially more hazardous than pot even with it being hallucinogen. I'm not into it personally. I've never responded well to it, makes me sick and I hate the feeling. But I can understand those that are into it and why. I think it's completely assanine that it's illegal. Weed doesn't kill, alcohol does!

I don’t use drugs anymore. My life is better. I don’t recommend my sponsees use drugs either. I am not anxious anymore.

Definitely something to pray on and research. It's not for everyone but there's medical evidence that it has healing properties. I quit drinking and smoking cigarettes, no more anxiety, no more OCD thoughts

This debate could go on 4ever. I don’t like to use absolutes, because there are always exceptions. For me the overall issue with addiction is using/doing something to avoid/numb/escape from feeling and dealing with reality. I don’t see one too much differently, or better/worse than another. Some will absolutely make you crash and hit rock bottom faster. Untreated addiction can and does kill 10’s of thousands of people each year. Be careful when you hear that weed doesn’t kill. Think about this…does gambling kill? How about eating disorders? Dos s£x addiction kill? The answer to all of these is yes. I’ve personally seen all of them destroy lives and kill people. Suicide rates are high for addicts. The pain and suffering leads to a very dark ending if not treated. I believe that’s the reality. If you’re here, then chances are very good that you have at least an addictive personality. The more you can learn to live life on life’s terms without substances the better. If you are able to control yourself with a substance and lead a happy life, than by all means please do. Approximately 15% of the population have serious consequences with mind/mood altering substances/behaviors. If you are not in that category, enjoy it. If you are one of us, the good news is there is help and a beautiful solution. Recovery is amazing!

Wow pretty polarizing. Good topic. I think it should be legalized and used medically and recreationally. That being said anyone can be addicted to anything. For god sakes people compulsive behavior is limitless. If you’re sober and know yourself and it helps with anxiety. I say by all means marijuana is safe for that person. If you are on the super addictive compulsive end of the spectrum you def need more help and should avoid using any kind of stimulus until you know yourself better.

So true. For me, if I go back to smoking weed, even though it was never my DOC, it would only be a matter of time before I was using other substances. I know this from prior experience. That’s for me. If weed keeps someone else away from their demons and doesn’t lead to a relapse, I’m not going to judge. For me? Nope, can’t do it, I have to remain abstinent from all mood altering substances or I’ll relapse, and my next relapse would likely lead to death, so I can’t risk it.

Sounds like it comes down to a personal choice. Hopefully those choices are based on self-honesty (just want to hide from things?), good science, and it might be wise to hear from your support team or family. Just my 2 cents.

Exactly that’s why it’s so different for everyone. Excellent comment. I have been sober 3.5 years and I bartend and do special events at a resort. I’m perfectly ok being around alcohol and making drinks. I know I’m one drink away from that seizure that will kill me. I know my limits some think I’m crazy for bartending and others think it’s impressive I have no problem being around it. No right or wrong answer

Also I'd consider going to a medical doctor it may be an actual chemical imbalance in the brain and if so, you might consider medicine for a season. There's no shame in that don't let people make you feel bad for seeking out treatment. I've seen it firsthand help keep people from doing harmful things to themselves and others. Doesn't hurt to just ask or talk to your doc about it.

Any addiction is bad including weed.

I think it's really easy to sit in judgment of otherrs, I try very hard not to .Who am I to travel someone else's journey. If your program is working for you great.I think it's very easy to start picking on someone else's program rather than focus on your own.Who am I to pass judgment on another's path.My focus should be on MY OWN PROGRESS, not wasting energy telling someone else how to live their life. It may not be my way and that's OK..... I REALLY NEEDED THIS TODAY.

I agree, most people in AA drink tons of caffeine and consume nicotine.. I know weed is mind altering but if you can handle it .. why not?

Your so right! If it was your doc or you use it for numbing or escaping then u you should partake

Hi all - Thanks so much for starting this conversation. It’s an important one to have.

If you go to the Dr Brett Kessler episode, around the 43 minute mark he begins discussing this. It’s a very informative listen.

Personally speaking, I never had a problem with marijuana. The challenge is when I used, it let my guard down and very soon I thought a drink would be nice and then before I knew it I was back in my addiction again.

The same has happened for every sponsee who I have worked with and weed was never an issue for them either.

So I would look at the gateway effects from my experience, without judgment.

And yes, if I take marijuana I am looking to break free from my clean and sober state… so I look at that as well.

I created Loosid so people can ask questions with no judgment so I very much appreciate everyone adhering to Cheyna’s very valid question.

:pray::heart:

Where else can you ask questions like this? Nowhere! This is the ONLY place/platform where we can discuss recovery so openly. This is the ONLY place where you will get awesome input from awesome people that can share what’s working (or not working) for them. The variety is amazing and endless.
