People call weed medicinal. You know what else falls into that category? Fentanyl. So as long as it’s prescribed it’s okay right? Did we learn nothing from the pill epidemic? The same question can go for methadone and subs. Yes they are better than shooting heroin. Congratulations on that. Unfortunately you are still in the chains of an addictive substance. I’m happy that it makes your life better but no you are not “sober”. I was on subs for years and never felt clean. Ended up back on the heroin.
Makes tons of sense! Good point
Thank you
I think it depends on your individual experience with it, but I found it to be very, very helpful at the beginning. It killed my cravings and helped me relax.
I used to feel the same. I used it for it's medical purpose and to me that's fine. But I started to misuse the excuses and was just stoned all the time and for me, that wasn't me being sober. To me sober is not having any chemical disrupt the natural order of my brain. I don't mean for things like caffeine either. Anything that altered my perception of how I go about my day was a big problem for me. I could manipulate myself and others into thinking I'm doing everything clinical but in reality I was still using addict mentality by being sneaky about it to get my doses raised and using the "anxiety" emotion as a reason to smoke. So for my soul to feel clean and sober I also had to give up Mary J
Hi
Clean of all mind and mood altering drugs…. Pretty much laid out in the NA Basic Text. No judgment here. Everyone does what they need to do.
I was prescribed med marijuana for ptsd. I was brutally attacked in 2009. When I got sober, people at AA told me I wasn’t sober. I stopped taking my edibles at night. I had 5 panic attacks in 1 month. It’s been a few weeks since my last panic attack. I’m not addicted to marijuana. I don’t think I should have stopped taking my edibles which I only took at night, when I needed them. I go to the DR this Tuesday. We’ll see what he says

Feel I’m a bit legalistic when it comes to the word “sober” to me that means no mind or body altering consumption(pill, food, smoke..) I haven’t smoked weed for 21 years, drank in 20, pills in 19…..sugar and nicotine still plague this body. Thankfully Jesus still loves me and You! Be well be blessed!
I know a lot of veterans of foreign war who swear by medical marijuana. Many have battled alcohol addiction. I thank them for their service.
I Agee with Cheyna to an extent. I applaud you for putting that out there. It really depends on what your trigger is and you can find that through help. What I used to deal with is the fact I could not find a way to fall asleep...my brain would not shut off. I started to self medicate with alcohol. Then through therapy I realized that I could not handle my own feelings. Did not know how to deal with them. I have found a comfortable ground now. Don't drink to Bury feelings, being bored or feeling alone. I still use MJ to help me got to sleep though. Way better than the prescription drugs that are out there today
Great subject and I’m glad it was brought up. My husband…not an alcoholic…but 100% disabled. He was approved for medicinal marijuana. I admit I did try it to relax and sleep but it didn’t really help me. And my husband didn’t like using it so I gave it to my friend who partakes. I just didn’t really like how it made me feel. Knowing myself so well, it’s probably a blessing it doesn’t do anything for me because I would likely have abused that. It’s just best that I remain Loosid and present for my own well-being and good. I don’t begrudge people who do.
It has helped me overcome OCD and anxiety. Society has labeled it a drug. Anything can be misused but has been proven to be beneficial. To each his or her own. Do what's best for you.
I'm also a Veteran

I take an antidepressant every day. Prescribed by my dr. I take it as prescribed. It helps me. I consider myself sober.
So is OxyContin
This is my favourite response so far.
If you want to get off substances, justifying the continued use of another substance as a replacement is pretty much text book abuse and manipulation to keep using.
Pretty sure if you stop using something and you have panic attacks because of that, it means you ARE clearly addicted.
You have no idea. I’m not getting into this debate. Thanks for your insight.
