What do you do at 5pm when the whole world

What do you do at 5pm when the whole world is on cocktail hour?

I make every effort to find something productive to do. I schedule gym time, meeting or call if possible, food shop etc. A meaningful task or goal as best as possible.

I either read a book, hit the gym, cook some dinner, find some karaoke... The thing is when I recall that I have no desire to poison myself just because I've been lied to about what alcohol does to me, I have no trouble socializing around folks who are poisoning themselves without want to do the same. I have forgotten this at times though, so remembering that any benefit is an illusion means that I can have all the same benefits without poisoning myself, because the poison isn't what I enjoy.

…there a jillion things to do besides drink.

People are brainwashed into thinking that alcohol and substances equal a “ good time “.

Get hobbies.
Read about how to get and remain sober.

Take walks.
Volunteer.
Go to meetings.
Sleep.
Watch, listen to podcasts.
Listen to music.
Dance.
The alternatives to ingesting substances is endless.

If meetings end up not working out for you, look into the many, many alternatives available in relation to thriving in sobriety.

Humans have a tendency to make life far more difficult than necessary.

This path is not always easy-( d u h )!…while soooo much better than living a life where one just does what most humans are doing…which is living unconsciously.

Hmm I’m not an expert but I try to go to meetings around the time of go get drinks so that way I’m around like minded people. And if I can’t get out to one I go to an online one.

I get ready to go to my volunteer job as an usher or go for a walk! I'm fortunate to live in an area where volunteer opportunities are numerous.

The real question is , what do you do at 4pm , to help prevent any of the "cocktail hour" thoughts.
Take part in some activities that engage and help your serotonin,dopamine, and endorphins. When you are done,some self care will help kill off that craving to drink, by engaging your oxytocin levels.
Whatever that may look like to you, it might take a couple tries to figure out what works best for you. Keep up the good work🤙
