What is this?! Is it normal to not be able

What is this?! Is it normal to not be able to sleep after quitting alcohol? It’s takes me hours to fall asleep. It’s like I only get 3 maybe 4 hours of sleep now. So annoying.

At first it does. It takes a while to readjust

Yes, most common complaint of newcomers, including myself.

Your body needs time to rewire its internal clock. For me, night time tea about an hour before I wanted to sleep helped. Also turning off the tv and reading or meditating helped. Be patient, it isn’t always like this.

I watched Bob Ross videos to help me sleep in the beginning. Well I still do lol

I had a hard time getting to sleep too. I actually put myself in danger with sleeping pills when I first tried to get sober because I couldn’t sleep. Ended up in the hospital because of it. It does get better, but your body takes time to adjust. Exercising, reading, calming music (I like rain or thunderstorms myself), etc. helps best. Just don’t do what I did in the beginning lol

Yes, very common. It will take some time, but your body will adjust.

Try sleepy time tea. Don't add sugar or honey, though. You don't need a sugar rush before bed, lol. Melatonin is also great, and both are natural

Thank you.

Look up healing frequency alpha wave music on YouTube. 432Hz is the best. It's helped me so much. Even helps me with cravings.

Your so used to going to sleep with alcohol that it's basically like a reboot to your system. Is it normal? I believe so because it happened to me too. A lot of things happened when I got sober. But I didn't want to end up like my sperm donor as we call him.

Experienced this too. It got better by the end of the first week for me. Hang in there! Totally can relate.

I will. Thank you!

Yes, it does take some time. Depending on how much and how long you drank for. What helped me: exercising later in the afternoon or early evening, I'm in AA and going to a night meeting (helped relieve the anxiety from withdrawal of alcohol and just it was a night routine), listening to a meditation on Calm or youtube and music. Also, I had to get used to turning off the TV for bed. While drinking...I would pass out while drinking and watching TV..

Heck yes.

It sucks for awhile but then you’ll sleep better than ever.

Totally normal. Acute withdrawal can last for over a year. I recommend seeing a psychiatrist about getting on some sleep meds.
