What is your opinion of medical go fund me fundraisers?

What is your opinion of medical go fund me fundraisers? I am asking for myself. I have never done anything like this for myself. I don’t ask anyone for money ever. Even in my active addiction in the past. I do without. This is urgent at this point and it’s dental related. I feel ashamed for even considering doing this. I have extreme anxiety about asking for help, let alone this type. What are your thoughts?

This is honestly a tough one. I’m not sure what to say. I have given to several people in my hometown community that have had cancer and accidents. I hope I’m never in the spot to need to start one, but I can see that do serve a purpose for certain things. Unfortunately, we addicts don’t get the benefit of the doubt, and many people suspect we are up to no good. Most of the time we are deserving of this reputation. If you go this route, I hope your family and friends are nice about it

I don’t have family and no in person friends. That’s what makes it weird too. Thankfully in my active addiction I never stole from anyone. I never begged for money. Not the type of person I am. Still aren’t. That is also what makes this hard. I realize it’s depressing to hear I have no friends or family. But it’s my reality and I’m used to it. Doing this recovery thing for me only. And my cat.

So my very first sponsor has had 8 surgeries, she is a teacher and her insurance has an outrageous deductible she suffers from degenerative disc disease and she needed a nerve stimulator for pain and had to come up with $5,000 up front before they would even touch her.I donated because I loved her so much and the stimulator changed her life she no longer walks with a cane and has a lot less pain.

No harm in asking. I don’t think there should be any shame in it. Everyone gets in a tight spot sometimes. Even if you only get a portion of what you need, every little bit helps. Best of luck.

That’s wonderful that you helped her. I hope she is okay now. Thank you for telling me about it. I did create one. The link is in an earlier comment. I sincerely appreciate any consideration.

Every county, state and the federal government has assistance programs for medical. I suggest you reach out to these local and National agencies.
There is lots of assistance out there.
Best of luck. Trust the process.

I have seen family and friends make one for funeral expenses.

I am on Medicaid. It’s dental work that is not covered by it. I apologize if my asking offends you. Not my intention.

Looks like the go fund me link was removed. I think if people are interested, they will have to message you in order to get the link

I’m not offended at all. Just a suggestion, the county I live in covers dental as well.
