Well your bank account for one… sanity and happiness. Self love.

Not being afraid of being pulled over every time I see a cop. Remembering if I said anything stupid the night before...The rewards are endless!...You definitely can do this Amy

Physically you will have more energy to do things you want to and the motivation to do them. Your skin will become clear and radiant and you will look younger and more beautiful. I too lost weight, about 25 lbs in 5 months of sobriety. Mentally you will remember what it is like to be calm again and a peacefulness should start to expand in your inner being. I have been sober for only 5 months after 10 plus years of heavy drinking and I feel better now than I have ever felt in my whole life. Could be both the physical changes and all the new realizations I have had so far. Wish I had gotten sober sooner but I am here now.

Forgot to mention I go to One or two meetings a week and I love this Loosid and all the folks who share on this site. It’s like being able to be in a meeting when I can’t be or have the time.

Don’t have the time

I can only tell about me, and my experience is that I have much more tools to deal with my feelings.

Not losing things, including time and money.

Waking up and not feeling like doo-doo, enjoying the money you save from not buying booze. I once saved my money that I would have spent for booze for one year and flew to Oakland to watch and cheer for my Raiders. Air fare, the motel, my ticket to the game, plus goodies and swag. All paid for from I would have spent on booze. Food to seems to taste better as well.Just a few of the ways that it works for me. Sleeping better also.Hope this helps. You have a great support network here as well.:100::hibiscus:

Tomorrow is day 400 since I had a drink. At the time, I was diagnosed with cirrhosis and was barely hanging on to my job, losing friends, and had lost all interest in anything except drinking.

400 days later my liver is regenerating and I may not need a transplant. I’ve rekindled friendships and made new friends. I can control my mood better, I sleep better, I eat better, and I’ve found so many great new hobbies and interests I would never have been able to enjoy while drinking.

Wallets, phones, expensive jackets, bags, sunglasses, shoes…the list of things I lost while drunk could go on forever.

You'll be smarter, better looking, more motivated, more fit, and most people who claim to be your friends won't secretly hate you.

Healthy, being , really being present in all that I do, clean, & above statements are true

Try a women’s meeting. Try a secular meeting. SMART recovery meeting. The Luckiest Club (TLC) meeting. 12 step works for me but it’s not the only game in town.

For me, it is a feeling of accomplishment. Gives me a sense of purpose, which I haven't had in years. One of the best feelings was when someone actually asked for my advice on a normal life situation, which seems menial, but it was a milestone for me because I can't remember when someone actually trusted me enough to ask my opinion.

Food is gonna taste alot better, your smelling senses come back strong almost like super senses. The brain fog goes away, it's like the vocabulary you thought you just ouldnt achieve was always there. God starts to reveal himself to you through people and in general life. There's a new sense of always learning and it's amazing. The longer you go without the booze the more stimulating. The down fall is people suck lol

Sobriety and recovery are two different things. In sobriety alone, you can expect physical results. In recovery, you can expect those plus a freedom from the anxiety that leads you to drink in the first place. Do yourself a favor and google "AA 9th step promises."
I have personally been pain staking about the work. I am not quite half way through, but I am already amazed.
Good luck to you.

Well, if you read the promises in the big book, it tells you what we can expect long term one of the things it takes a little while for the fog declare in your brain to start working correctly again, because drowning our brain and alcohol does a lot of damage especially it’s over a period of years And it’s different for different people. I know one thing waking up sober did for me was I didn’t have hangovers anymore and as long as I stay connected to the program, I can actually solve problems the right way, because when we decide to drink because of a problem all we do is create another problem took me a long time to learn that I’ve been in the program about 30 years and only got five years sober. I was one of the more stubborn ones I hope that helps you.
