What was the straw the broke the camels back for you? Where you realized enough was enough? Just curious. For me, it was blacking out one time too many and not remmering a thing. The embarrassment then not remembering driving home. Not proud!
When I found myself curled up in a ball crying on my basement floor. I was having panic attacks consistently. I hadn’t slept in three days. I drank nothing but vodka and ate hard boiled eggs for a week.
The shame that follows is never worth it. My problem is I don’t know when to stop.
Black out drunk and crashed and had to be resussatated, woke up the next day in the hospital? No memory and lots of trouble? Stayed clean for about 3 weeks and over dosed, narcan 4 times and but for the grace of God I was given another chance? 91 days clean and I'm so grateful to be able to say to you this gets better. Remember what you did wrong and put it behind you. Growth from mistakes makes us stronger.
I drove 2 1/2 hours drunk, armed… and my kids were in the car. That’s the last time I had a drink.
Blew 5x the legal limit…. The scariest part is I remembered everything my tolerance was THAT high
On July 22nd 2021 my life finally imploded. I knew it was eventually going to happen, yet I couldn’t stop it. What started out as a little escape from reality, became a life of addiction(s) that slowly spiraled out of control and destroyed my family and I. My wife and kids found out I had been living a double life for the past 8 years. They had their suspicions as I grew sicker and sicker, but on 07/22/21 all of my deepest darkest secrets were exposed to the horror of my family. The shame, self hatred, humiliation, guilt, remorse etc, pushed me over the edge. As horrible as it was (and it was F’ing horrible for all of us), it was the only way I was ever going to stop. It’s been 15 months, and it’s nice to be human again. We do recover:pray:

It was dead There were two ways my life was going to get sober and die or keep drinking and die. I went with the getting sober.
My final straw was waking up in the hospital after suffering a minor stroke, a minor heart attack, and a spinal cord injury that left me without the use of my right arm. Fast forward 18 months and I have about 75% function back in my arm, no lingering effects from the heart attack or stroke. I'm extremely blessed to be alive and clean, typing this message!
My 11 yo son calling 911 because I fell down a flight of stairs and was severely injured.
Some life events had transpired that left me an outcast amongst the ppl id known my whole life. Id keep playing the situations over and over in my head. The resentments inside me kept coming to the surface , I'd act out and i kept getting arrested. When I finally told enough people and cops that I was gonna kill them and I got thrown in jail. Now I'm sober for just about a year. I feel so much better now.
I was 18 years old. Sitting in a jail cell after I’d been pulled over for my speeding with no drivers license. I had six speeding violations on my record at the time. This was three months after I had been thrown out of high school because I had too many absences and didn’t have enough credits to graduate. When I didn’t graduate my parents told me if I wouldn’t stop using drugs and alcohol I couldn’t live at their house so I had moved out. I’m grateful I made the choice to walk away from chemicals.
Mine was my DUI
I lost my kids. I lost my job. I was in criminal court and family court. I had 3 CPS cases against me. I had broken every promise I’d ever made to myself and my family.
I hated myself for sure, but I still played victim. Blaming everyone else for all that shi+. I was in therapy lying to a therapist for $115/hour. I had 2 lawyers on retainer.
And finally, after 25 years of believing that alcohol was the solution, not the problem, I received the gift of desperation. After my second 12 step meeting and my last detox, I learned about the disease of addiction. I learned to see myself as sick instead of weak. And I began my journey to wellness.
I wish I could say one DUI was enough. I got one more 13 years later. (Last year-and still not enough)
In September it got worse, yet again, and now I am preparing a case for custody of my children where I will be representing myself on Friday. I not only can't drink again, but I effing REFUSE. Alcohol is my devil and it has gotten worse and makes me someone I am not. Praying that I can retain custody of my children Friday thanks to the fact that I am a very involved Momma and have made great relationships with church members in my classes and theirs and with their school teachers who are all vouching for me. The humility it took to ask for their help in this matter was huge and gut wrenching and their support has been amazing. It is nice to know they all see the good and never the bad. This is the last chance I get. I am done.
When I realized I couldn’t find what I was looking for at the bottom of the bottle…I’d either die or give it up because there wasn’t enough alcohol to feed my addiction anymore
I pray you regain custody. I feel the same, alcohol turns me into someone I hate and that is not me
.
Thank you. Me too. I know that this is not a game and this is not a win or lose situation. I've already lost. To be here proves that. If I get to keep custody of my kids, then it is a blessing and a chance for me to do what is right for them and for me. I have to be the best me to care for them. The only way I am winning is if they see me staying sober. It is past time to break this generational curse of alcoholism and addiction. It starts with me showing them. Prayers are definitely appreciated. I am praying for you, too. We can do this.
Ending up in jail for the first time at age 70!
Gaining nothing from drinking, and only losing.
