What's the difference between being sober and a dry drunk?

What's the difference between being sober and a dry drunk? In my opinion, a sober person is able to feel free and accomplished. While a dry drunk, stops drinking but still has those alcoholic tendencies, that held them back in the first place. Let me know your thoughts and how you see it..

That’s pretty much it..from my understanding a dry drunk has not went through the recovery process and therefore is still dealing with some of the issues that caused them to drink in the first place. Greater chance for relapse.

From WebMD:
-Dry drunk syndrome is a term coined by the creator of Alcoholics Anonymous to describe someone who has quit drinking but hasn't dealt with the issues that caused them to become addicted in the first place.‌
Dry drunk syndrome can be a sign that you are close to relapsing. Sobriety is a long, ongoing process, but help, support, and treatment can make it easier.

What Causes Dry Drunk Syndrome?
-Sobriety is different than recovery. Dry drunk syndrome is also referred to as "white-knuckling." If you're not drinking but you're still on edge or craving alcohol but not getting treatment, you may be experiencing this. Youmay still be struggling with the emotional and psychological issues that led you to drink. ‌

Happy, joyous & free VS restless, irritable & discontent.

A dry drunk is a person who quits drinking but does nothing to fix the root of the problem.

How is this different from quitting smoking but not “getting to the root” of why you smoked. Can’t you quit drinking and just honestly not crave it anymore. I went for 25+ years just drinking 2 or 3 drinks (4-5 nights a week) and now I decided it’s not healthy for me anymore.

I don't quite understand the referencing or see the question I asked being answered here but congratulations on your healthy choice. As long as your happy with your decision that's all that counts.

To me a dry drunk is someone who is still uses poor(pour me) thinking. Distorted thinking is their go to. Most of the dry drunks I know also have this superiority complex about their ability to white knuckle it. Above those in a program because they did it all by themselves. IMO

The steps---
Practicing ALL these principles in all our affairs

A disaster waiting to happen.

A sober day is you / me working the program. Sharing and having a higher power/ my Lord. Mail program is helping someone/anyone “ not family “ who truest asking for help. One day at aTime

"Dry" is mere physical abstinence without working a program of recovery.

I think a sober person is eventually happy. A dry drunk probably feels like they are missing out

Ohhhhhh big difference.
The complete opposite

I get what you’re saying Julie and I used to feel similar. We are all different, some of us drank/used to cope with other things.
To quit without learning how to cope is the issue. After 30 years of use and quitting…. I had to learn some new tools. I’m still learning.
I think that’s more the point, using was a symptom of another problem that needs fixing

A dry drunk is someone who is sober but not working a program of recovery. That’s what I was taught. For me, if you can stay sober and are joyous and free with or without a recovery program then I feel that God is working in your life! We label everything.
However, if you’re like me then you may need a spiritual program to keep sober and live joyous and free.
