When I was getting high. I was extremely social. I had a ton of “friends”. Now I can find anyone on the same level as me. It feels like all I do is work and sleep. I really don’t have any real friends and the AA thing just isn’t for me. Idk what to do. I miss being around people.

Hey man, why do you think AA/NA isn't for you?

I am an introverted, atheist who's "higher power" is the best version of himself and I feel good at AA. It takes a bit of time to find your space, but it's worth it when you do

What bothers you about it?

Did you give meetings a chance. If you can go to inperson I am pretty sure you could connect with new friends. I do AA and I can’t tell you how many friends I have. I gained 3 woman in my area that we are not inseparable. Don’t shoot anything down until you give it a chance. Plus NA meeting also.

A lot of my sober friends (or at least friends who are happy with being sober when we hang out) are people I met through hobbies we have in common. For instance, I've got friends who I met through a local cycling club and friends who I've met through my board gaming hobby. Do you have any interests/hobbies that might have local groups?

Because it’s not. Don’t just assume I haven’t tried it. I have it’s not for me. And please don’t be one of those that tries to shove it down your throat.

I wasn't shoving anything down your throat not attempting to. I simply asked you why it didn't work for you. I'm always curious about why things work/don't work for people. I didn't assume anything about you (your accusation of me) and you assume that I was going to be pushy about AA.

Also you didn't really even answer the question, and on top of it, you were kinda a prïck about it.

If you're here for help, then talk and be cool. People wanna help. But if you don't tell people what the problems you have with things are, nobody is gonna be able to be helpful.

It works if you work it. I believe in you.

Hugs* it's tough and AA is not for everyone, but maybe try a "meetup" group? Do you have any healthy hobbies you'd like to pursue? Maybe you can find good friendships there.

I live in Arkansas. And yeah I got hobbies. I build race car engines. But that really doesn’t interest a lot of people. The building part that is. Everyone wants to be around when you take it out. But I’m also from Arkansas not a lot here. Except meth lots of meth.

I went to a meetup group and the majority of people did not drink. They have some groups for people who don’t drink. My situation was happenstance.

Keep going back, no matter how “off” it feels…. If you’re not feeling AA try NA for a change. Alcohol is just a liquid drug.. good luck!

I can totally relate.

Look dude it is not for me. This is not up for debate. I’ve tried it I don’t like it so I’m not going to do it. It is not the holy grail of sobriety. Prison changed my life. Can stand all you AA NA people. Keep trying it…. I’m good.
