Why is the beginning always so hard?

I’m new here! Any advice or kind words would be super helpful.

It’s a slow process but keep up the fight! There’s no shame in seeking some sort of guidance or plan moving forward. Having some sort of structure will eliminate unnecessary confusion that can comes with a very confusing process.

Gotta begin somehow. Never easy starting out. Yet, the easy does eventually come. Begin it.

It’s like learning how walk.
To my knowledge no one is born with the ability to do so.
First an individual learns to crawl then with support they learn to walk.. it’s a process within that process there will be challenges as well huge learning experiences. The rewards you reap are far greater than any challenges that you will face..
It’s gets better as well real.
“Trust the process”

Hey Ash! The beginning is always rough because we are taking away our favorite coping mechanisms (alcoholic/drugs). Whenever we got a little anxious or uncomfortable, we always had our addictions helping us to escape our feelings. We need to learn how to deal with our feelings and emotions in healthy ways. The first part is just to be aware that you are feeling weird and want to escape. That’s where you are now. I know it’s rough, but these feelings are temporary and do pass. AA has given me tools to get thru without drowning and numbing myself. Others have been successful by following other daily rituals and programs. I hope you can find one of these programs that can work for you :peace_symbol:

Nothing changes if nothing changes. The most loving thing you can do for yourself is get a sponsor who can guide you through the 12 steps

Hey Ash did you ever start a book or movie or TV show and the beginning was hard to get into but literally everyone swore it was worth it. That it got unbelievably good??

That’s sobriety. You’ve just got to get through this first chapter.

I’m new as well, and choosing not to use AA or a rehab program if I can help it. Unfortunately I haven’t had a fully sober/nicotine-free day yet, but I’m getting much better at recognizing my cravings and postponing my acting upon them. That’s how I’m going about it, and there have been good results in a short time. Doing the inner work of recovery is going to be your best bet on staying quit, too. I’ve heard from formerly addicted and obese friends that once you’ve truly accepted yourself and come to peace with your shadow, the physical steps become easy. Feel free to message me (if we can do that on this app) if you would like to be accountability buddies

Keep your head held high and don't focus on the past let your higher power take control and drive, keep your eyes out of the rear view mirror and forward but only work on of as far as your headlights will light up anything passed that can become stressful. Keep up the good work.

I'm telling you girl, getting busy doesn't give you time to think about how hard it is and the sooner your healing begins! I'm here if you want someone to chat with!

Love this analogy!!

When I first got clean….it was a hard struggle!! Because my motive of operanda was using to stay comfortably numb! As time went on it got so much better! Today I don’t even think about it! I’m ten months clean in seven days!! You will survive!! It is tough in the beginning!! But you are worth it you see!!!
